India holds a number of records at the Cricket World Cup – from being the highest run scorer to winning by the highest margin are all records in India’s kitty. Late on Sunday night India got its name in another exclusive record holders’ list in the ongoing Cricket World Cup.

The match against England ended in a tie making this the fourth tie in the history of the Cricket World Cup.

It’s a tie!

Previously, there have been three tied matches in World Cup history. The very first tie was between South Africa and Australia in the 1999 Cricket World Cup semi-final.

To South Africa’s extreme bad luck they could not score the one extra run to advance to the World Cup final and lost the chance to Australia on grounds of Australia’s head-to-head record against South Africa.

However, the second tied match was not so dramatic but it once again involved South Africa in the 2003 Cricket World Cup. The match between South Africa and Sri Lanka was decided by the Duckworth-Lewis method and once again led South African to a loss.

This was because of a mix up as South African batsmen thought they had reached the score required to win and blocked out the last ball of the over to avoid losing wickets. But the score only tied the match and South Africa could not make it to the Super Sixes.

The third tie was between Ireland and Zimbabwe at Kingston in the 2007 Cricket World Cup. And now the forth tie in the history of the Cricket World Cup now rests with India and England after the February 27 match.
