Volkswagen surprised the entire automobile industry by introducing the smart and very fuel efficient Volkswagen XL1 concept at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi. This concept car by Volkswagen is certainly an impressive one, which comprise of a perfect amalgamation of 0.8 litre of two cylinders TDi engine accompanied with an E-Motor, which are successful in churning about 48 HP and 27 HP of peak power respectively. The engines are cleverly coupled with seven speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG) with a lithium ion battery. When running in pure electric mode, the car could give a continuous run up of up to 35 Kilometers at a stretch, that too without emitting any CO2.

Besides delivering an awesome mileage, the new Volkswagen XL1 concept car is also victorious in impressing the world with its looks. The design of the concept car is fresh and has been inspired from the Volkswagen’s latest design language. Volkswagen XL1 Concept car is about 3888mm in length and has a width of 1665 mm and 1156 mm height. The wing doors are hinged at 2 points, pretty similar to a sports car and the car is also a bit low on A-pillars. The profile of the car is very similar to Volkswagen L1 concept but Volkswagen XL1 concept has a more dynamic, robust and energetic look. On the front, the traditional radiator grille is placed with poise and the brand new and fresh headlamps with LED technology add more charm to the exterior of the car. The air intakes are electronically controlled and fully covered rear wheels are present to avert air turbulence. To cut down on the weight of the car, Volkswagen has manufactured the parts of Volkswagen XL1 concept car with CFRP or carbon fiber reinforced polymer.

Above and beyond the strong and dynamic exteriors, the under-bonnet is strappy as well. The Volkswagen XL1 concept car combines 0.8 litre of 2 cylinder TDi engine, which generates about 48 HP power along with an E-motor that adds on an additional 27 HP. To further enhance the overall driving experience for the owner, the engine has been intelligently coupled with seven speed dual-clutch transmission, whereas the electric motor drives its energy from a lithium ion battery. Another exciting thing about the XL1 Concept is that it takes merely 11.9 seconds to touch 0 to 100 km per hour mark (approx), while the top speed of the car is 160.93 Kilometers per Hour.

Besides the powerful engine, the major and the most exciting highlight of Volkswagen XL1 concept car is its mileage. The Volkswagen XL1 concept mileage is certainly very impressive and one can run the car about 100 kilometers in 0.9 litres of fuel and it gives off about 24 gram per kilometer carbon dioxide. This concept car has been designed as plug-in hybrid. Therefore, Volkswagen XL1 Concept archetype could be drive for up to 35 kms in electric mode, which do not emits carbon dioxide at all.
