December 17, 2013: The German car manufacturer, Volkswagen will unveil the Tiguan SUV at the next year's Indian Auto Expo. It shares the platform with Skoda's Yeti, which will also be unveiled at the 2014 Auto Show in a new avatar. The SUV will be made available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine and it is also speculated that the company could also fit a 1.2-litre TSI engine to Tiguan. The vehicle might also feature the 1.6-litre diesel or the 1.5-litre diesel. The company will also introduce the facelift version of the Passat.
Considering the increasing popularity of the compact SUV models in the market, every next auto major is high on launching new models lined up in the same segment. Talking about the level of competition existing, few major names like Renault, Ford and Mahindra seem to put direct competition to each other. One of the fastest growing segment has delivered few marvelous compact SUV models in the market. If it has been proved as such a profitable venture for the other brands, Volkswagen can't lag behind with its business. So, the company has unveiled its own contender in the compact SUV segment. This particular Volkswagen product has been named as Taigun, which has even been showcased at the Sao Paulo Auto Show, which was held in year 2012. The vehicle was unveiled as the Volkswagen concept at the motor show, and had received many accolades for the same. Looking at the exterior front of this compact SUV, the clean and concise look of the model comes out clearly. Without compromising over the muscular appeal, which is quite usual with this segment vehicles, the Taigun features an overall length of about 3859mm, 1728mm of total width and an overall height of 1570mm, which seems quite good for this segment. To pump up the aggressive appeal of the vehicle, Taigun has been made with a wheelbase of 2.47meters, which is certainly not usual with other branded models in the segment. This has even resulted into offering spacious and full of comfort interiors for all the occupants. It can be said that Volkswagen has put in all its efforts, and with some smart techniques has developed a vehicle, which serves all the needs and leaves no chance to complain. The most striking element of this compact SUV is certainly its overall design and styling. The clear proportions and the compact look makes this vehicle most suitable for the lucrative Indian market.
Moving to the engine specifications, this Volkswagen Taigun compact SUV is expected to be powered with a 1.2-litre, four cylinder turbocharged stratified injection based petrol engine, which is capable to produce a good torque as well as power output. The engine is expected to be mated with six speed manual or a DSG (direct shift) gearbox, which allows a breathtaking ride through this new vehicle under the brand name Volkswagen. The other element that contributes to the suitability of the vehicle is the mileage figure, which is being assumed to be quite good. The diesel mill is also expected to be a 1.2-litre power plant that can churn out 74bhp. The newly introduced Taigun has carried forward the styling details from its SUV siblings, the Tiguan and Touareg. And this is quite evident looking at the side panels, underbody protection and roof rails with LED spotlights incorporated in the design of new Taigun. The powerful road presence of the vehicle is developed mainly due to the presence of wider tracks (1473mm at both front and rear), while the side profile is defined with the 17-inch alloy wheels with 205/50 R17 tyres. To make it sail smooth even on rough surfaces, the company has come up with a high ground clearance and pounding torque generation enables an effortless ride on any road condition. The new Taigun has been developed with an intention to make the vehicle more of an upmarket SUV specifically targeting the urban crowd, while with the high driving position it enables a clear view to the driver even in heavy traffic condition. Moreover, the SUV also bounds a lot of space and plenty of room for luggage ( 280 liters and expandable with rear seat folding to 987 liters). The tailgate has been designed with a split over it i.e. Two thirds gets open in the upward direction and rest downward, which makes the loading very easy.
The headroom of 1036mm in the front and 980mm at the rear end makes it easy for nearly 4-5 passengers to seat comfortably in the vehicle. Meanwhile the infotainment system of the vehicle is compatible to almost every smartphone and it also provides an intuitive interface to the users. This compact SUV certainly seems promising mainly with its compact structure, which makes it easy to sail even in heavy traffic conditions.
