Skoda Yeti Description :

Skoda plans to Skoda Yeti with two engine options, 1.6L and 2.0L petrol engines and a 1.9L turbo-diesel engine. Skoda made an amazing combination of style and comfort to make Skoda Yeti. Skoda Yeti got features from Skoda Roomster, Volkswagen's SUV Tiguan and Skoda Fabia. It is packed with the brakes and transmission of Skoda Roomster, and the suspension of Skoda Fabia. Skoda Yeti got an aggressive look but is less bulky than the usual SUVs. It is equipped with long suspension with high ground clearance that offers comfortable ride. Skoda Yeti has dashing and elegant interiors, and the instrument panel is nicely placed on the dashboard.

After the launch Skoda Yeti will compete against Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio, Maruti Grand Vitara and upcoming Tata Indicruz that might be launched in Indian market by the end of 2009. The car will be imported as CKD from the parent company and will be assembled at company’s Aurangabad plant. India’s auto market has lacked for small SUV for a long time, and Skoda Yeti may fill that gap. However, the Skoda Yeti price of Rs 10 lakh might be a deterrent for any huge sales.

Skoda Yeti Models

Skoda Yeti will be launched in Indian market with both petrol and diesel engine option and also with both manual and automatic transmission option. Skoda Yeti will also be available with 4Wd (Wheel Drive) option. Skoda has not yet disclosed the exact number of variants that they are going to launch in Indian market but it is expected that it will be launched with two petrol variants and four diesel variants. Mileage, Average and Fuel Economy

Skoda Yeti will be launched with both petrol and diesel engine option – its petrol variants will be available with two different capacity engines that will offer different level of engine performance and mileage. Its 1.2L, 1197cc, Turbo Charged, DOHC petrol engine will be available with both 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic transmission option, will offer mileage 12.7kmpl at urban roads while on highway it gives mileage 17.2kmpl on highway. On the other hand, another petrol variant of Skoda Yeti which will be powered by the higher capacity engine, offers more power and torque but bit lower mileage. This variant will be powered by the 1.8L, 1798cc, Turbo Charged, DOHC petrol engine with six-speed manual transmission gearbox and with 4WD (Four Wheel Drive) will offer mileage 9.9kmpl in city while on highway it will offer mileage 14.5kmpl.

The diesel variants of Skoda Yeti will also be available with different capacity engine and with both 2WD (Two-Wheel Drive) and 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) option. Its 2WD variants will be powered by the 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged diesel engine with 5-speed manual transmission gearbox offers mileage 14.8kmpl in city while on highway it gives mileage 19.2kmpl. Its diesel variant that will be powered by the same engine and which will be packed six speed manual transmission gearbox and with 4WD (Four Wheel Drive) option offer bit lower mileage. This variant will offer mileage 12.6kmpl in city while on highway 17.2kmpl.

Another diesel variant of Skoda Yeti which will also be available with 4WD option will be powered by the 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged diesel engine with 6-speed manual transmission gearbox and with advanced Haldex clutch offers more power and torque in comparison to previous diesel model. The mileage of this diesel variant in city 11.2kmpl and on highway it gives mileage 15.8kmpl.

There might be another more powerful variant of Skoda Yeti will also be launched, which will be powered by 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged diesel engine with 6-speed manual transmission gearbox and with advanced Haldex clutch. This variant will also be available with 4WD option and it will offer higher engine performance in comparison to previous diesel variants. This variant will offer mileage 11.2kmpl in city and 15.8kmpl on highway.

Power

As we already mentioned that Skoda Yeti will be launched with both petrol and diesel engine option – its petrol variants will be available with two different capacity engines that will offer different level of engine performance and power. Its 1.2L, 1197cc, Turbo Charged, DOHC petrol engine will produces 104.7 PS at 5000rpm and 175Nm of maximum torque at 1500~3500rpm. On the other hand, another petrol variant of Skoda Yeti which will be powered by the higher capacity engine, offers more power and torque. This variant will be powered by the 1.8L, 1798cc, Turbo Charged, DOHC petrol engine with six-speed manual transmission gearbox and with 4WD (Four Wheel Drive) will produce maximum power of 160PS at 4500~6200rpm with the maximum torque of 250Nm at 1500~4500rpm.

The diesel variants of Skoda Yeti will also be available with different capacity engine and with both 2WD (Two-Wheel Drive) and 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) option. This variants will be powered by the 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged diesel engine with 5-speed manual transmission gearbox produces maximum power of 110PS at 4200rpm with 250Nm of maximum torque at 1500~2500rpm.
 
Another diesel variant of Skoda Yeti which will also be available with 4WD option will be powered by the 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged diesel engine with 6-speed manual transmission gearbox and with advanced Haldex clutch. This variant delivers more power and torque in comparison to previous diesel model with 140PS of maximum power at 4200rpm with 320Nm of maximum torque at 1750~2500rpm.

There might be another more powerful variant of Skoda Yeti will also be launched with 4WD option, which will be powered by 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged diesel engine with 6-speed manual transmission gearbox and with advanced Haldex clutch. This variant delivers higher engine performance in comparison to previous diesel variants and it produces 170PS of maximum power at 4200rpm and 350Nm of maximum torque at 1750~2500rpm.

Acceleration and Pick Up

As we already discussed earlier that Skoda Yeti will be launched with both petrol and diesel engine option and its both petrol and diesel variants will be available with different capacity engines that will offer different level of engine performance and acceleration. Its 1.2L, 1197cc, Turbo Charged, DOHC petrol engine delivers good acceleration so that Skoda Yeti can cross the mark of 100kmph in 11.8 seconds and it can touch the top speed mark of 175kmph. On the other hand, another petrol variant of Skoda Yeti which will be powered by the 1.8L, 1798cc DOHC petrol engine offers high engine performance with better acceleration so that it can cross 100kmph mark in just 8.4 seconds and it can touch the top speed mark of 200kmph.

The diesel variants of Skoda Yeti will also be launched with different capacity engine. Its diesel variant which will be powered by the 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged diesel engine with 5-speed manual transmission gearbox delivers good engine performance and acceleration and it can cross 100kmph mark in 11.6 seconds and it can touch the top speed mark of 177kmph.
 
Another diesel variant of Skoda Yeti which will be available with 4WD option will be powered by the 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged diesel engine with 6-speed manual transmission gearbox and with advanced Haldex clutch, delivers better performance and high acceleration in comparison to previous diesel variant so that Skoda Yeti can cross the 100kmph mark in just 9.9 seconds and it can touch the top speed mark of 190kmph.
 
Skoda Yeti would be launched with a more powerful engine with 4WD option, which will be equipped with 2.0L, 1968cc, Turbo Charged Diesel engine. This variant delivers much higher engine performance and acceleration in comparison to previous diesel variants and it can break the 100kmph barrier in just 8.4 seconds and it can achieve the top speed mark of 201kmph.

Wheels

As for the wheels, Skoda Yeti will available with both steel wheels and stylish alloy wheels. It will be available with five different alloy wheels option that are Annapuma, Spitzberg, Dolomite, alloy wheels with the size of 7.0J X 17” and it will be packed with 225/50 R17 tubeless radial tyres while Spectrum and Moon alloy wheels will be available with the size of 7.0J X 16” and it will be packed with 215/60 R16 tubeless radial tyres. The Skoda Yeti variant which will be packed with steel wheels will be packed with 7.0J X 16” with radial tubeless tyres with the size of 215/60 R16 and with Rif hub covers.

Braking and Handling

The front wheels of Skoda Yeti are packed with large Ventilated Disc Brakes while its rear wheels are packed with Leading-Trailing Drum Brakes that de-accelerate this small SUV very quickly.
