Renault India was established in 2005 and entered in to collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra to manufacture the popular Logan sedan. In April, 2010 Renault decided to go solo in the Indian market and in May, 2011 introduced its first product, the premium Executive sedan Fluence. Renault cars are manufactured in the Alliance plant located on the outskirts of Chennai in Oragadam with a capacity of 200,000 units per annum.

Renault Fluence is available in both petrol and diesel engine variants. The diesel variant is coupled to with Manual Type transmission with 6 forward, 1Reverse gear, whereas the petrol variant of this beautiful sedan is added with Advanced CVT II transmission including 6 speed automatic gear and Manual Mode, if required. Also, it is very efficient in terms of suspension, brakes and the steering. The sedan comes fitted with advanced suspension system in which front suspension is a MacPherson type with coil spring, stabilizer bar and double acting shock absorber and rear one comes fitted with a trailing arm type with coil spring and double acting shock absorber. The car uses rigid chassis that ensures comfortable, enjoyable and efficient riding experience on Indian roads. Apart from this, Renault Fluence is also fitted with ventilated discs brakes.  

As far as exterior and interior design is concerned, the car can be termed as one of the most beautiful cars currently running on Indian roads and is definitely a head turner. The Renault Fluence has a dynamic yet sober front view which comprises of a sleek and rectangular upper grille in box design added with the company emblem. The lower grille spreads across the full front view or the nose. Front fog lamps rest there and deliver an elegant look. There is nothing special about the headlamp cluster as it comes in ordinary design but incorporates broad outlines. The ORVMs and door handles also matches the body color for uniform appearance. Side skirts are kept bold and beautiful for the sake of sporty image of the Renault Fluence. The rear side view of the car is bolder than its front view. The tail lights are more than long that cover most of the space at rear and side. The car has boot with a sleek spoiler. Rear bumper comes in black that houses the exhaust pipe tip peeping out from it.

Editor's take : The K9K engine of the Fluence has always been an efficient engine, and with the six-speed transmission, the efficiency is even better.

Renault Fluence comes in two engine options viz. petrol and diesel. The D segment luxurious saloon comes with the new dual clutch transmission in its petrol avtaar. The company claims that both the engines (petrol and diesel) are capable of delivering class-leading fuel efficiency. While Renault Fluence Petrol E4 with 1997 cc in-line shells out a mileage 13.4 kmpl , the Diesel E2 fitted with 1461 cc mated to 6 speed manual transmission delivers 21.8 kmpl. Renault India has also launched an upgraded version of Fluence Diesel E4 which carries a Step 2 CRDi engine with Variable Geometry Turbo. The 110 Ps-240 Nm diesel motor is capable to churn out a mileage of 20.4 kmpl.

Editor's take : The power produced by the Fluence is decent, and the recent upgrade that the diesel got has improved the drivability, reducing the turbo lag.

The French carmaker Renault is known for manufacturing highly powerful engines and Renault Fluence has definitely proved it. The mid-size sedan is available in both diesel and petrol engine options. The 2.0L Petrol variant is capable of producing maximum power of 137 PS @ 6000 rpm and maximum torque of 190 Nm @ 3700 rpm. Regarding the power production of Diesel engine, 1.5 litre Renault Fluence E2 Diesel can deliver 106 PS @ 4000 rpm and distributes torque of 240 Nm @ 2000 rpm. Diesel line-up has another engine which is known as Fluence E4 diesel. This 1.5 litre dCi engine is upgraded and delivers now 110 Ps of power at 4000 rpm and maximum torque of 240 Nm@2000 rpm .

Editor's take : The acceleration of the Fluence is also good. It is not the quickest vehicles around, but it has the power to potter around in traffic.

Renault Fluence sedan sits in the deluxe D segment cars in India. The company has no doubt, fitted, technologically the most sound engine in Fluence. Initially only petrol and a diesel variant were launched; however, another high-end diesel was added to the line up soon which was further upgraded. The 2.0 litre E4 petrol engine is so agile that it zoops from 0kmph-100 kmph speed in 14 sec. It can fly with a top speed of 185 kmph. The other 1.5 litre E2 diesel engine covers nil to century speed mark in 15 seconds and achieve a top speed of 180 kmph. The Step-2 1.5 litre E4 diesel engine can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 14 secs . This new and improved variant has a top speed of 190 kmph.

The Renault Fluence is a mid-size sedan that possesses simple but distinctive appearance. Overall appearance looks like a dream toy car that has long but compact nose and upswept rear with arch-shaped roof. The sedan has pleasing shaped nose that consists of automatic headlamps and aggressive grille boxes. Also, the positioning of lamps in the headlamp cluster is quite impressive. If you notice the large rectangular lower grille attached with round front fog lamps, it will look like a smiling face of a human being. Adequate space for number plate is left between small upper grille and lower grille. Unlike most cars, the Renault Fluence has the same design for upper and lower grille but shapes are altogether different. The company emblem finds its place at the tip of the nose that seems like an ultra modern nose ring.  

The sedan Renault Fluence is equipped with electric powered ORVMs in body color and silver finish door handles. The doors have embossed waistlines and ensures wide opening to assist in comfortable entry and exit. As already discussed, the roof of the car is arch shaped and improves the dynamic image of the sedan. The rear side view of the Renault Fluence is more aggressive than the front one with large tail light cluster and appealing boot gate. The tail lamp cluster is split across the tail side and trunk gate; the lights slots are in leaf shape that looks amazing and with Turn Signal Lamp on outside rear view mirror and rear glass electric defrosting , riding this beautiful car is much safer. The mid-size sedan by Renault, Renault Fluence, can accommodate five passengers at a time including the driver. Editor's take : The interiors of the Fluence are spacious and even the quality of the plastics is good, and so is the fit and finish and even the feel.

The best thing in the Renault Fluence is the interiors which have an array of designer features to woo any car lover. The front cabin of the car is packed with premium fabric upholstery and handsome Electric Variable type (EPS) - speed proportional power steering having tilt and telescopic features . The steering comes with mounted controls, central console with most of the desired features and impressive instrument panel with dazzling backlight. Ample storage space is ensured at the dashboard and the cabin; it has illuminated glove box just in front of the front passenger, and front arm rest with storage box & cup holder. Auto Bi Zone climate control and rear AC Vents works perfectly well at the middle of the dashboard and at both the ends. The inside environment temperature control will be taken care of by this system. The electric powered steering wheel will come in four spokes along with mounted controls and a compact and handy gear shifter .

As far as the seating and comfort are concerned, the Renault Fluence is to come with five seat arrangement with all the supporting comfort features. The car encompasses driver lumbar support, rear arm rest with cup holder. The second seat row is quite roomy just as there is enough head and legroom at the front. There are head restraints for two passengers but flat backrest is also there for the middle passenger. However, seatbelts for all the seats would be a standard feature. In the same way, hand rest at each door will be there along with a digital speaker. The leather seat covers deserve special mentioning. The second seat row seems roomier than the front one, the initial pictures suggest. The Renault Fluence has a boot as third cabin in which you can carry your luggage easily.

Interior Comfort

The Renault Fluence ensures ample space for leg, shoulder, head, and hip room. Even after accommodating five passengers in one go, there would be pretty good space for all to feel comfortable inside . The door openings are designed in a way to give hassle-free entry for all. As per the news reports, the car will be equipped with advanced AC system with vents at the front and rear. Power steering with mounted controls, hand gear shifter and impressive meters would further enhance the comfort level.

Editor's take : The performance of both the petrol and the diesel engines doing duty on the Fluence is decent.

Renault Fluence is available in both diesel and petrol engine options, so as to suit different customers’ needs. Renault Fluence petrol has a displacement of 1997 cc and offers mileage of 13.4 kmpl. This petrol motor with 4 cylinders in line and spark ignition, multipoint injection. This out-of-the-world engine churns out 137 Ps of power and 190 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an advanced CVT II (Continuously Variable Transmission) with 6 speed manual mode. Furthermore, the E2 diesel variant of car has a displacement of 1461cc and delivers a mileage of 21.8 kmpl , which offers relaxation to the owner’s wallet. The 106 Ps-240 Nm Direct Injection diesel engine consists of 4 cylinders arranged in-line. The company also has another upgraded diesel engine in the name of Fluence Diesel E4. This is again packed with the same 1.5 litre dCi engine, however, the mighty motor belts out 110 Ps of max power and 24 Nm of max torque. The new engine proffers reduced load losses, courtesy all new Variable Geometric Turbo. The air intake path has been eased down to pull off more efficient turbo performance sans increasing much fuel consumption. Moreover, a low inertia turbo improves response at low engine speeds making hassle-free for city drivability. The Piezo injector appreciably perks up combustion performance with more precise spray pattern, which in return heightens the engine power. Fluence diesel has the lowest emission standards in its category.

Editor's take : The ride on the Fluence is pliant like any other French vehicles and even the handling is good. It has been built to go racer boy, but sufficient for overtaking in city and on the highway.

The suspension system of the Renault Fluence is not to be questioned for sure. The suspension does solve dual purpose; one is to ensure smooth riding and second is to give support to the chassis. The car is added with side -chest level airbags (Front Seats) four airbags; two at the front cabin and two at the rear . Editor's take :  The Fluence gets an integrated music system, steering column mounted audio controls, climate control and the key card are the various bells and whistles on offer.

The audio system comprises of CD/MP3 player/Radio with 4 speakers, steering mounted audio controls, Bluetooth connectivity and central display . The cabin's environment is managed by AC with climate control. AC vents will be seen at front cabin as well as the rear cabin.
