Nissan Evalia is a perfect multi-purpose vehicle that suits every Indian family, be it for long drives or comfortable ride with a gang of friends. Nissan used the Auto Expo 2012 platform very intelligently. There is ample of space for large families as it can comfortably adjust 7 adults with utmost ease and comfort. The auto giant unveiled its much hyped made in India MPV, Nissan Evalia, previously known as Nissan NV200 during the Auto show itself. This multi-purpose vehicle was revealed by the Vice-President of Nissan Middle East, Africa and Indian, Mr. Gilles Normand.

Nissan India already floats hatchback Micra and a sedan Sunny along with three CBU vehicles. The production of Nissan Evalia has begun at Nissan manufacturing plant located near Chennai.  Nissan Evalia certainly impresses with its simple styling. The tall upright stance, slender front doors and short bonnet area makes it look attractive and appealing. The major highlight here is its serrated grille and new sleek angular headlamps. However, the USP of this MPV is its sliding rear doors giving it a van like appearance . The box-shaped rear end is kept clean and simple with the tail lights being placed lower down. A total thumbs up can be given for Nissan Evalia for its passenger space. Going into a little detail of Nissan Evalia, the car directly competes with Mahindra Xylo and the Toyota Innova. On the global front, Nissan NV200 was honored with the award of ‘International Van of the year’ in 2010. With such a prestigious award, the MPV surely hold up something special.

2012 Nissan Evalia comes powered with the 1.5dCi diesel motor that has been borrowed from Nissan Sunny diesel. The powerful engine generates about 83.8bhp of power at the rate of 3750rpm along with maximum torque of 200Nm at the rate of 2000 rpm. The engine is then coupled with the five speed manual transmission that enhances the overall driving experience for the owner. Besides such impressive diesel engine, the MPV is loaded high-end features, which includes intelligent key, rear view camera, power steering, advanced integrated air conditioning system along with an audio system, black color ORVMs, front disc, rear drum brake, front fog lamps, alloy wheels, rigid rear forks, strut front suspension, power window and foldable rear seat row thus increasing the boot space for keeping more luggage. Nissan India has also taken care of the safety of the car and its passengers by providing antilock braking system along with EBD, SRS dual front airbags adds more safety.

New Nissan Evalia is surely larger when talking about the passenger space and luggage compartment, and aims to target Toyota Innova. This is evident from Evalia’s wheelbase which is 2725 mm-quite close to Innova’s 2750 mm. The exterior appearance of Nissan Evalia is pretty appealing and simple. The front end of the MPV has a sloping shape towards the bumper whereas the nose of the car surely appears to be smiling, all thanks to the front grille and the triangular shaped multi-reflector halogen headlamps. The lower segment of Nissan Evalia looks elegant in black lower air dam fixed in body color bumper which also houses fog lamps that have been shaped in round. The door handles as well as the diamond shaped ORVMs looks amazingly unique. 2012 Nissan Evalia has been installed with a 1.5 litre of K9K diesel engine, which is also giving duty in the Nissan Sunny sedan these days. This diesel engine has a displacement of 1461cc and has the ability to produce peak power of 85bhp at the rate of 3750rpm along with producing peak torque of 200Nm at the rate of 1900rpm . The five speed manual transmission coupled with the engine gives the car a chance to perform spectacularly on road. This CRDi diesel engine isn’t a disappointment and has the ability to give out good power that enhances the overall performance of the car.

Editor's take : The acceleration of the Evalia is good enough for its size, and it doesn’t feel like a large MPV and more like a hatchback.

The engine giving duty in  Nissan Evalia is very resourceful and dynamic giving it a decent  pick-up and acceleration. However, Nissan Evalia still does not match up to the acceleration of the 2.5litre and 2.2litre of engines that are present in Toyota Innova and Mahindra Xylo respectively; but as the car is light in weight in comparison to its competitors the engine performance difference is not much. Nissan India has managed to render the MPV with a class-apart acceleration with the tried and tested 1.5 litre K9K diesel motor. When accelerated, the MPV catches up a top speed of about 120-140km per hour, which is decent when it comes to MPV. Also, the car touches the 100km per hour speed mark in nearly in 17.5 seconds . These acceleration figures might not impress many of you, but Nissan Evalia is not a Formula-One car that you expect it to go from 0 to 100kmph in 3-4 seconds . Overall, the performance and speed of the car on road is workable and acceptable.

The exteriors of this powerfully built MPV, 2012 Nissan Evalia are amazing and delightful at the same time. The front facade of this stylish multipurpose vehicle is designed in an elegant manner and it has a sleek and stylish front radiator grille. Editor's take : The interiors of the Evalia has spacious and is fairly loaded with features. Even the quality is decent. Evalia is very high on practicality with sliding doors and a low floor for loading.

Nissan India has put in a lot of efforts to make this charming multipurpose vehicle very lavish from the insides. The interiors of this New Nissan Evalia are done up with elegance and the company has bestowed it with some no nonsense and very practical convenience features. The seating arrangement of this Nissan Evalia Diesel is very comfortable with well cushioned seats that give a superior lumbar support along with pertinent back and thigh support as well. These seats are all covered with premium fabric upholstery and are very soft, which makes it very comfortable even for longer highway drives as well. All the seats in this powerfully built MPV are reclining and can be customized accordingly. The interiors are done up in a well dressed beige trim, which is giving this powerfully built multipurpose vehicle a first rate feel. The interiors also have a full fabric trim as well as a neatly designed centre console that makes this MPV look refined. Editor's take : The engine on the Evalia doesn’t have that extra punch for quick overtakes, but is very much drivable and can be driven without any kind of stress in city or even on the highways.

Nissan Evalia boasts of stylish exteriors and the superb cabin space inside. But, the engine inside the car is certainly very impressive all together. The fuel efficiency, power and the performance of the car on road is not at all disappointing. Under the hood of Nissan Evalia you will find the 1.5 litre of K9K dCi four cylinder CRDi (common rail direct injection) diesel engine , which is also seen in the Nissan Sunny diesel sedan. This 1461cc of engine is capable of producing high power of 85bhp at the rate of 3750rpm along with producing peak torque of 200Nm at the rate of 1900rpm. The engine has been further coupled with five speed manual transmission , which helps the car in performing impressively on road. Rumors in the market suggest that the automatic transmission is expected to arrive in 2013.

The good looks of Nissan Evalia have been enhanced with the presence of 14 inches of alloy wheels , which are fitted into the top-trim of the MPV. These 14 inches of alloy wheels comes with a tubeless tyres of 165/70 R14 size . The other variants of the Nissan Evalia MPV comes with 14 inches of steel wheels with the tubeless tyres of 165/70 R14 size.

Editor's take : The ride on the Evalia is very much sorted and even the handling isn’t bad. The best part of driving the Evalia is that it feels like a sedan, and can be easily steered in tight lanes, despite its dimensions.

The 1.5litre of K9K dCi diesel engine mated with a five-speed manual gearbox giving duty inside the Nissan Evalia MPV helps keeping the car agile and very dynamic. The body length does take the turning radius figure a bit higher, but that is not problematic. The high torque produced at low rpm makes sure that the car doesn’t get bulky and performs well even on the high traffic conditions. The power steering wheel present in Nissan Evalia makes the MPV glide easily and cut the traffic without any trouble. The handling of the car is further amplified with the presence of good suspension system. The front axle has McPherson Strut type suspension, while the rear axle comes with Torsion Bar.  This absorbs all the bumps and potholes and keeps the ride very comfortable and bump-free. talking about the brakes, the braking system here comprise of disc brakes for the front and drum brakes for the rear that are extremely responsive.

Editor's take : The Evalia gets safety features like ABS and dual airbags. Even the third row seats gets seat belts.
