June 5, 2013: India's leading SUV maker, Mahindra & Mahindra has today launched the Verito Vibe notchback in India, which will rival against the likes of Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Chevy Beat and others. Launched only in diesel version, the Verito Vibe has three variants- D2, D4 & D6, priced at Rs 5.63 lakh, 5.89 lakh and 6.49 lakh respectively (Prices are ex-showroom Mumbai without Octroi) . The Verito Vibe has all the advanced features like ABS, driver airbag, alloy wheels and rear defogging. While the top-end variant Verito Vibe D6 also gets integrated music system with USB and AUX Input. The Verito Vibe has been made available in a total seven colour- Fiery Black, Java Brown, Mist Silver, Toreador Red, Dolphin Grey, Diamond White and Aqua Rush. The Verito Vibe promises to return the mileage of 20.8kmpl.
The home bred automaker, Mahindra and Mahindra has a splendid fleet of vehicles in the country's lucrative car market. Among these, Mahindra Verito Vibe is their flagship hatchback that is available in three variants. Its dual tone dashboard is equipped with a few aspects like AC vents, an instrument panel, a 3-spoke steering wheel and a large glove box. The gear shift knob and inside door handles of D6 variant are silver finished, while other trims have black colored door handles. Its seating arrangement is extremely comfortable and provides ample leg space for all occupants. These are integrated with head restraints and covered with premium fabric upholstery. The door trims of top end variant are covered with fabric that gives this hatch an urbane look . It has a trendy instrument panel, which comes with amber color illumination. It is equipped with a few aspects like a digital tachometer, an electronic tripmeter, a low fuel warning light, door ajar and headlamps on buzzer, driver seat belt warning notification and so on. Its interiors are very spacious and provides a lot of room to the passengers. It has a comfy leg room along with good head and shoulder space, which ensures a comfortable drive. It has a large boot compartment of 330 litres that can be increased by folding its rear seat and a 50 litre fuel tank as well.
Ed's take: It isn’t the acceleration that is the USP of this engine, but it’s the drivability.
Its performance packed diesel mill is skillfully mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box that transmits torque to its front wheels. It propels the vehicle to attain a top speed between 140 to 145 Kmph , which is quite remarkable. It also has the ability to breach the speed mark of 100 Kmph from a standstill in just about 17.2 seconds.
Ed's take: The drivability of the Verito Vibe is excellent. Lug in into a higher gear and there is no struggle from the oil burner.
All the variants of Mahindra Verito Vibe hatchback series are fitted with a 1.5-litre diesel engine under the hood. It has the ability to displace 1461cc. This power plant is integrated with four cylinders and sixteen valves using DOHC based valve configuration. It can churn out a maximum power output of 64.1bhp at 4000rpm in combination with a peak torque output of 160Nm at 2000rpm. It is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which sends the engine power to its front wheels. It is also incorporated with a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system.
Ed's take: The Verito Vibe comes only in diesel engine, and it gets the K9K engine that is highly frugal.
Its 1.5-litre diesel mill is integrated with a common rail direct injection fuel supply system. As certified by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), it can deliver a healthy fuel economy of 20.80 Kmpl on the bigger roads . It comes down to 18 Kmpl approximately, when the vehicle is driven under city traffic conditions.
Ed's take: The power produced by this engine on paper isn’t that great, but in real world it does the job.

Ed's take: The Verito Vibe gets music system with USB and aux connectivity to it. It misses out on steering mounted audio controls.
The company has equipped D6 variant with a sophisticated 2-DIN audio unit, which helps in enhancing the in-cabin entertainment. It supports Aux-in port, USB interface, CD/MP3 player, radio with AM/FM tuner along with four speakers . The owners can also customize other variants with an efficient music system. Apart from these, the list of other accessories includes high quality fabric upholstery for seats, internal carpets, mud flaps, a sporty rear spoiler, stylish body decals, premium leather seat covers, side moldings, smoked glass headlamps, protective claddings and many other such aspects.
Ed's take: The ride of the Verito Vibe is plush as it built on the Logan’s suspension, which is very good. Most of the shocks from the road are soaked up by the suspension and even the handling is decent.
This Mahindra Verito Vibe model lineup is bestowed with a proficient braking and suspension mechanism. Its front wheels are fitted with a set of disc brakes, while the rear wheels have been equipped with solid drum brakes . The top end trim is also equipped with anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution. On the other hand, its front axle is assembled with McPherson type of system, which has a wishbone link. While its rear axle has been fitted with H-Section torsion beam with programmed deflection coil springs. It has a rack and pinion based steering wheel, which is quite responsive and makes handling effortless even in peak traffic conditions. It supports a minimum turning radius of 5.25 meters, which is rather good for this segment.
Ed's take: The Verito Vibe gets active safety features like ABS, which helps in controlled braking. The passive safety features include airbag and seatbelts for all five occupants.
The company has taken care of the protective aspects given this hatchback series a lot of crucial features. Some of them include laminated windshield, halogen headlamps, prismatic day and night inside rear view mirror, rear doors with child safety lock and collapsible steering column. It has an advanced engine immobilizer with anti theft alarm that prevents any unauthorized entry. Then the D6 variant is also equipped with driver airbag, electrical rear window child lock and anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution . Apart from these, it has a rigid body structure with side impact beams, a central locking system, keyless entry, spare wheel and so on.
The neatly carved wheel arches of D2 and D4 variants are fitted with a sturdy set of 14-inch steel whee l, which have full wheel covers. The company has also equipped this hatchback with a full size spare wheel, which is affixed in the boot compartment with all other tools required for changing a flat tyre. A day before, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) imposed a penalty of INR 2,544.65 crore on the country's leading 14 car manufacturers. And in response to that, auto major Mahindra & Mahindra, which was fined with INR 292.25 crore for violation of trade norms in the spare parts and after services market., said it would challenge the trade regulator CCI.
