Audi AG is a highly reputed automobile manufacturing company. The Germany based giant is a premium brand within the Volkswagen AG. The company was given a new life in 1965 through the Audi F103 series after a few bouts of acquisitions. The company is the brainchild of a German businessman named August Horsch. Horsch was the owner and founder of a company. After being expelled from his own company, he, along with some friends, laid the foundation of this company. From a modest beginning, the company grew and reached the heights it has attained today. After making its mark in the European and American market, the company turned its attention towards India. In 2006, the company established a manufacturing unit in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. This marked the establishment of what, till now, has proved to be an impressive domination of the (luxury) car market. Today, Audi is the preferred choice of the classes especially the models like Audi S6. Audi S6 is a variant of the Audi A6 that offers a superior performance. The car is primarily a Sedan and has already amazed buyers in three forms and a new form is expected in 2013. The present edition is priced at an MRP of $ 76,100 in the global market and offers brilliant features. It is equipped with a 4.0 L Biturbo V8 engine. The intelligent use of a mixture of steel and aluminum in the body significantly reduces the weight of the vehicle by 15% compared to a conventional steel vehicle. This combined with a new choice of engines leads to 19% lower fuel consumption. 

It provides decent city fuel economy of 14 mpg and a highway economy of 21 mpg. The car is available in a lone trim level and is equipped with 19 inch cast-aluminum wheels and performance tyres. The exterior of the car is equipped with adaptive and automatic headlights, LED running lights, rear-view camera, and rear parking sensors, sunroof, automatic wipers, exterior mirrors and a facility for keyless entry. As far as performance is concerned, the car offers a power of 414 HP and a torque of 398 pound-feet. The car has flawless interiors. The cabin is trimmed in leather and aluminium with birch wood accents Sports seats provide a very rugged feel to the car. The cabin is highly spacious and allows up to four passengers to enjoy long drives. This medium-sized car provides a very spacious trunk which is much bigger than expected. Ensuring passenger safety has always been the motto of the Audi franchise. The philosophy is evident in this case too through some safety features. Some of the safety features provided include driver’s information system (DIS), anti-lock disc brakes, stability control, all-wheel drive, air bags and a blind spot warning system. The entertainment aspect is taken care of by some rather impressive features. These features include an MMI (Multi-media Interface) system, a dash-mounted LCD screen and console-mounted controls which offers knobs and buttons. Talking about the appearance and luxury, the cabin has a truly royal feel to it and justifies the car’s classification as a luxury car. In terms of power and torque, the car offers a peak power of 414 bhp and a peak torque of 398 pound-feet. The power offered may not be too impressive but it can still go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.

The car is equipped with a 5.2L, V10 40 valve petrol engine. The engine offers a peak power rating of 414 bhp at 6800 rpm and peak torque 398 pound-feet at 3000 rpm. The power rating offered by the car is 75 bhp less than similar cars from a rival company. This lack of power results in a lacklustre feel. The car scores over its competition clearly as far as the transmission mode is concerned. It has 6 speed shiftable automatic transmission mode which helps in giving the car a modern feel. Acceleration and pickup are not exactly the biggest plus points of the car. The car can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Such pickup allows the car to edge out the A6 3.0T.

The car is equipped with 19 inch cast aluminium wheels that provide a certain amount of sturdiness to the car and facilitates good driving. The car offers a decent front and rear legroom of 41.3 inches and 36.9 inches. As far as head room is concerned, the front and rear values are 37.5 and 37.8 respectively. The car also provides an impressive tank capacity of 21.1 gallons

Comforts

Interior air filtration allows users to reap the benefits of pure dust-free air. Audi S6 has vanity mirrors for co-passenger as well as the driver. The only saving grace is that the fact that the car can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds helps it in getting an edge over the A6 3.0T a small consolation considering how other faster and stronger cars, of the same genre, simply outclass it. Fuel economy plays a big role in determining a car’s viability. The city fuel economy offered by the car is 14 mpg while the highway economy is 21 mpg. The combined economy offered is 16 mpg. While the figures are not too bad one would expect a little more.

The car uses 19 inch long alloy wheels that enhance sturdiness and offer a high amount of durability. A spare alloy wheel is also provided in order to deal with emergencies. The tyres are of 265/35R19 size. These tyres offer high performance and have a reasonable long life.

Audi S6 comprises of C4 brakes. The C4 system utilizes front and rear radially ventilated disc brakes. The 30mm thick discs used in brakes, comprise of two-piston floating girdling calipers that bear the company logo. There are four individual pads per calipers up front. There are 269mm by 29mm discs with lucas single-piston sliding calipers at the rear. In order to prevent the locking of wheels due to braking at high speed, the car uses a four wheel Anti Braking System (ABS). The system is based on the concept of threshold braking and Candice braking and enables the wheels to continue interacting actively even while braking. The car offers head airbags along with the normal front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. Rear side airbags and a blind-spot warning system are optional. A video monitor is provided which offers brilliant high resolution picture quality. A speed adjustable volume system ensures that entertainment derived is unaffected by driving speed. A total of 13 speakers help in creating a “surround-sound” feel. A diversity antenna is also provided.
