The Audi A8 is a four-door, full-size, luxury sedan car manufactured and marketed by the German auto maker Audi since 1994. Succeeding the Audi V8, and now in its third generation, the A8 has been offered with both front, or permanent all-wheel drive and in short and long wheelbase variants. The first two generations employed the Volkswagen Group D platform, with the current generation deriving the MLB platform. After the original model's 1994 release, Audi released the second generation in 2002, and the third and current iteration in 2009. Notable for being the first mass-market car with an aluminium chassis, all A8 models have utilised this construction method co-developed with Alcoa and marketed as the Audi Space Frame. A mechanically-upgraded, high-performance version of the A8 debuted in 1996 as the Audi S8. Produced exclusively at Audi's Neckarsulm plant, unlike the donor A8 model, the S8 has only been available in short-wheelbase form and is fitted standard with Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system.

The company claims that Audi A8 would be the most luxurious and comfortable car in its segment. The car is launched in 3 exclusive variants out of which two are petrol and one is diesel engine model. All the engines are turbocharged and bear direct fuel injection system. The variant with 4.2-litre, TFSI petrol engine, is capable enough to produce 372bhp of peak power at 6800rpm while it generates top torque of 445Nm at 3500rpm. The other petrol variant of the Audi A8 is powered by 3.0-litre TFSI quattro petrol, 8 cylinder engine which easily pumps out 250bhp of maximum power at 4000-4500rpm and 420Nm of peak torque at 2500-4850rpm. The variant is loaded with standard eight-speed tip-tronic transmission. The diesel variant of Audi A8 is loaded with 3.0-litre TDI quattro diesel engine that develops 290bhp of peak power at 4850-6500rpm and 550Nm of peak torque at 1500-3000rpm. The variant is loaded with an eight-speed tip-tronic transmission. All A8s feature the newest version of Quattro, which includes torque vectoring. This system distributes drive individually between each axle and between the rear wheels for improved traction and stability. An optional sport differential distributes power between the rear wheels for optimal performance under hard cornering. The A8's multimedia interface (MMI) combines a standard navigation system with a touchpad.mmI touch enables the driver to control many functions intuitively such as inputting the navigation destination by writing the letters on the pad with the touch of a finger. ThemmI system can recognize complex scenarios and make anticipatory decisions to assist the driver. The new technologies include a night vision assist with marking of detected pedestrians, the Audi pre-sense safety system, as well as a speed limit display. Another high-end solution on board the new A8 is full LED headlights, which use light emitting diodes for all light functions. They give the luxury sedan an unmistakable appearance even in daylight and even more so after the fall of darkness. Combining the high-techmmI system and LED headlights, Audi's navigation unit predicts the road ahead and adjusts the light pattern accordingly. This function will enable special output in highway settings, and even activate a cornering light for wider-angle illumination when entering an intersection.  

The petrol base variant of Audi A8 is powered by the 2995cc 3.0-litre-litre TFSI quattro, 6-cylinder petrol engine and develop 250bhp of maximum power at 4000-4500rpm while churning out 420Nm of peak torque at 2500-4850rpm. The higher end Audi A8 4.2-litre, TFSI petrol, on the other hand gives 372bhp of maximum power at 6800rpm while it churns out 445Nm of peak torque at 3500rpm. The model comes loaded with supreme technology which makes the car fuel efficient and reduces the CO2 emission to the lowest possible. The exclusive diesel variant of Audi A8 which is loaded with higher capacity 2967cc 3.0-litre TDI quattro engine that generates 290bhp of highest power at 4850-6500rpm and 550Nm of peak torque at 1500-3000rpm. The all luxurious carrier gives tremendous fuel efficiency, something Audi is good at. The engine in Audi A8 is loaded with smart technology with which fuel is directly injected to the engine chamber so that the combustion is timed down to mere milliseconds thus one gets the best out of the last drop of fuel. This makes all the models of Audi A8 fuel efficient and powerful. The most powerful W12 petrol engine is also the most fuel efficient engine with an overall mileage of around 12kmpl. Its 3.0-litre-litre engine returns around 9kmpl while the 4.2-litre FSi and 4.2-litre TDI engines gives a fuel efficiency of around 7kmpl and 8kmpl respectively.

There are 4 engine options available in A8. Its basic 4.2FSi petrol engine churns out a maximum power and torque output of 372bhp and 445Nm at 6800rpm and 3500rpm respectively. Its second W12 cylinder petrol engine pumps out a power and torque output of 500bhp and 625Nm available at 6200rpm and 4750rpm. It also has 2 diesel engines. First of them is a 3.0-litre TDI engine with a power output of 250bhp coming at 4000rpm with a torque output of 550Nm ranging from 1500rpm-3000rpm. The second V8 4.2 TDI diesel engine generates a power of 346bhp at 4000rpm with 800Nm of torque ranging from 1750rpm – 2750rpm. All these engines are mated with 8-speed automatic transmission.

The diesel variant of the Audi A8 is loaded with 2967cc 3.0-litre TDI quattro engine. The powerful engine of the car pumps out 290bhp of highest power at 4850-6500rpm and 550Nm of peak torque at 1500-3000rpm. The powerful engines with the help of six-speed tip-tronic transmission reaches 0-100kmph mark in 6.1 seconds. Whereas the higher end Audi A8 4.2-litre, TFSI petrol variant will take just 5.8 sec. The vehicle can achieve the top speed of 249.45kmph.

You won’t much complain about its appearance but when you spend this much of money, you do except exclusivity which is missing in this car due to its high resemblance with its younger siblings. It has inspired many cars in terms of designing which also includes most of its younger siblings. Still, Audi has tried to give it a unique identity with an extended typical Audi bumper grille with chrome linings, LED headlights and a long bonnet which makes it look appealing. The car looks very proportionate thanks to its well-designed rear overhang. With 18 and 19 inch alloy wheels and large side panels, it looks pretty mature and stable. Rear profiling could have been better as you will have to look for its name to differentiate it from its cheaper siblings. The headlight cluster of Audi A8 sports LED daytime running lights, turn indicators and xenon head lamps. In order to assure additional safety, the car is loaded with fog lamps at both front ends. The outside rear view mirrors are body coloured and electronically powered. The roof arch is given a liner shape and might be available in different colours. The rear side view of Audi A8 is sporty and majestic as well. The tail lights cluster is in prominent shape giving it an aggressive look. Front view prominently shows the compartment for grille fitted right at the lower centre appearing like the nose of this car.
