Mahindra Quanto is a compact SUV, which has been built as an urban SUV to sail on city roads as well as for off roading on uneven terrains. The car comes equipped with a new 1493cc mCR100 engine; the common-rail motor is actually a downsized three-cylinder version of Mahindra’s existing 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. The 1.5-litre twin scroll two-stage turbo engine also has an intercooler to output fairly impressive power and torque figures of 98.6bhp and 240Nm. Usually the three pot engines have an issue of vibration and these engines get imbalanced on higher revs, but here Mahindra has done a fabulous job with the Quanto that it provides great refinement. The engine is fairly quiet and vibrations have been well balanced. There is a little three cylinder thrum on some extent but it is not that much even on higher revs. The twin turbo engine has been made to provide continuous torque on lower RPMs and it does its duty so well, however the engine is not meant to rev hard and even on top RPMs i.e 3500rpm it doesn’t gather the pace. Overall this is a nice machine and fulfils all the needs of a compact urban SUV.
