Arguably, the Hyundai Verna is one of the most versatile cars in its segment, given the sheer number of powertrain combinations available. However, if you are looking at the diesel automatic, the number of options boils down to two, i.e. the AT S and the AT SX (O). Priced at Rs 11.27 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi, as of 8 May, 2017), the Hyundai Verna 1.6 CRDi AT S sits one rank above the base grade. Compared to its manual counterpart it commands a premium of around Rs 89,000.

To begin with, the Verna comes with dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard. It also gets a rear camera with the display on the interior rearview mirror (auto-dimming) and rear parking sensors, along with projector headlights. Suffice it to say, the Verna AT S is quite loaded on the safety front.

Outside, while the manual grade gets 15-inch wheel covers, the AT S gets alloy wheels of the same size. It also gets nice touches like wing mirrors with integrated LED indicators, a front grille garnished in chrome and a rear chrome garnish. Step into the cabin and you are welcomed by a wood grain finish for the instrument panel and chrome touches for the AC vents and handbrake lever tip. Features offered include automatic climate control, a cluster ionizer (air-purifier), electrically adjustable wing mirrors, and armrests at the front and rear. It also gets tilt steering, a luggage lamp, a sunglass holder and the auto up and down function for the driver window. For entertainment, the car gets a double-din stereo with Bluetooth connectivity and 1GB of internal memory, while the steering wheel gets integrated audio controls.

Powering the Verna 1.6 CRDi AT S is a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine that makes 128PS of power and 260Nm of torque. The motor comes paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox and Hyundai claims the car can manage a fuel efficiency of 19.08kmpl. For reference, that is nearly 5kmpl less than the equivalent manual variant of the Verna.

The Hyundai Verna diesel AT goes up against the likes of the Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid.
