Toyota Kirloskar Motors India has extended its portfolio in India by launching the Toyota Etios Liva hatch in Indian auto market. This is the flagship hatchback from the Japanese automaker and it is available in both petrol and diesel variants out of which, the Toyota Etios Liva J is the entry level petrol variant. This particular variant is powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.2-litre petrol engine that comes with a total displacement capacity of 1197cc. This engine is capable of producing a peak mileage of about 17.71 Kmpl, which is not so bad. Although, it is not the best in terms of fuel efficiency, its DOHC valve configuration allows it to deliver a reliable performance. This particular variant is very affordable, good featured, sporty looking and a high performance four wheeler in its class. When it comes to its appearance and style, it has a very distinct body design with an aggressive front and sporty rear profile. The interior design of this hatch is also unique in comparison to the conventional designs. The company bestowed this particular trim with all the basic and standard comfort features as well as safety functions. The company is selling this base variant with only two body paint options, which are Symphony Silver and White finish option for the buyers to choose from.
As said above, the Toyota Etios Liva hatch has a very distinct body design and a lot of sporty cues. The front facade of this hatchback is very aggressive thanks to the macho bumper and a trendy radiator grille, which gets Matte Black color garnish and it is fitted with a chrome plated company insignia. This grille is surrounded by the stylish yet aggressively designed headlight cluster that comes incorporated with the halogen lamps along with turn indicators. Just below this headlight cluster there is a bumper with a wide air dam. There is a chin guard sort of design below this bumper that makes it look sporty yet aggressive from the front. There is a very stylish dashboard in the front cabin that has a central console equipped with several equipments and AC vents . The three spoke steering wheel has a flat bottom and it gives a sporty feel to the driver. The space inside the cabin is very good thanks to the large wheelbase of this vehicle. The seats fitted inside the cabin are wide, well cushioned and have been covered with fabric upholstery. The company has equipped this particular variant with all the basic features that adds to the conveniences of the passengers. Powering this base variant is the reliable, DOHC based 1.2-litre petrol engine that is designed with an electronic fuel injection system. This engine has 4-cylinders that makes a total displacement capacity of about 1197cc . The fuel is supplied to the thrusters via EFI system, which will generate a peak power output of about 78.90bhp at 5600rpm. This commanding power is converted into the maximum torque yield of about 104Nm at 3100rpm and it is delivered to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. This manual transmission will help the vehicle to produce decent mileage figures of about 17.71 Kmpl, which is not bad. The company claims that the vehicle can reach a top speed of about 140 to 145 Kmph while reaching the 100 Kmph mark in just about 14 seconds.
Braking and Handling:
Although, the Toyota Etios Liva J is the base version in its model series, it is blessed with proficient braking and handling aspects. Coming to the braking aspects, its front wheels are equipped with high quality ventilated disc brakes and the rear wheels are assembled with a set of reliable drum brakes. On the other hand, it comes with an electric power steering system with tilt function that makes maneuvering of the vehicle simpler for the driver. The company has fitted McPherson Strut to the front axle, while assembling a Torsion beam type of suspension to the rear axle. This will absorb all the jerks caused on uneven roads and keeps the vehicle steady and well balanced.
The Japanese automobile company has equipped this base variant with standard set of features. Some of the most important aspects of this variant include an air conditioning unit with a heater and a clean air filter system, which will keep the cabin pleasant. Some of the other features include an electric power steering with tilt function, front cabin lights, a cooled glove box unit, a digital trip meter , internally adjustable ORVMs and so on. Also this particular trim comes with 7-bottle holders, front and rear door pockets, along with an internal rear view mirror.
Coming to the safety aspects, this Toyota Etios Liva J petrol variant is being offered with very few basic features. This vehicle comes with powerful halogen lamps, an advanced engine immobilizer system along with a door ajar warning system as well.
