Great Wall and Foton Motors Plan to Enter Indian Market

The Great Wall Motor Company is not a familiar name in the Indian subcontinent. It is the name of a Chinese automobile firm that has since 2008 been producing cars and SUV's for the Chinese market. Beiqi Foton Motor Company is yet another name that is prevalent in the Chinese auto market. Now news out of SIAM is that officials from both these auto makers paid a visit to SIAM in order to discuss their venture into the Indian market.

Foton Motors apparently has already acquired a piece land in Maharashtra to setup a production facility. Great Wall Motors is has as yet not made any deals on land acquisition, but is reportedly interested in places like Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra for their production facility. According to officials at SIAM, Great Wall Motors plans to enter the Indian automotive scene by April 1, 2015 which marks the start of the 2015 financial year.

We also have reports that neither of the two Chinese auto firms are interested in a joint venture and wish to enter the market independently. While Chinese vehicles are very popular within the country itself, their popularity outside of China is somewhat diminished because of an inability to meet international safety and equipment standards. These companies will have to carefully consider the Indian market before they launch any products. Stay tuned to CarDekho as we bring you further updates on the future of Great Wall Motors and Foton Motors. Cheers!
