The Incredible hulk remake is out. Only that this time it is called Toyota Land Cruiser-Pride of the world. First generation Land Cruiser from Japanese carmaker Toyota entered as a jeep-like vehicle in 1951 and has been a definition car of every era that it has seen since. Mileage is an arena where SUVs mostly lag behind. The 6 speed electronic controlled automatic transmission with Intelligence makes the 4.5 litre diesel engine less frugal. Toyota Land Cruiser mileage is as low as 5.5 kmpl to 6 kmpl. The reason for such a poor performance on mileage’s front can be attributed to the V8 construction of engine cylinders. Such types of engines have poor fuel efficiency. Even diesel fuelling this SUV do not acts as a savior, however, mileage is not a feature considered by many SUV buyers while purchasing a giant like this.

Toyota Land Cruiser comes with a 4.5-lt DOHC 32 valve V8 diesel engine with common rail-type fuel system. It delivers a maximum power of 195 KW at 3400 rpm, a maximum torque 650 Nm at 1600-2600 rpm. The 4461 cc engine has 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with sequential shift control. The power delivered by Land Cruiser 200 is better than most of the SUVs in same price segment.

Toyota has paid special attention to exteriors this time. The trademark jeep style cruiser has been revamped as a perfect mix of legacy and trends. Moving from front to rear, the first attention grabber is the aerodynamic multi-reflector halogen headlamps with auto on/off feature that are integrated with fog lamps. The broad and bold front grille that houses 28 outlet vents combined with edgy headlamps makes the front part a visible treat. Toyota has put some real thought into the choice of wheels. The car equipped with 18-inch high-gloss alloy wheels that have 5 spokes and 285/60 R18 tyres. The tyres have Mud-and-Snow-rated steel-belted radial blackwall.

A full size alloy wheel spare is also included. The front wheel tread is 1.64m deep and the rear wheel tread is 1.63m that gives the tyres a firm grip on the road. The minimum turning radius is 5.9m. The wheelbase is 2.85m while the ground clearance is a good 22.5cm.

The logical harmony of brakes and engine in Toyota Land Cruiser 200 has given it some of its own intelligence.  The brakes are ventilated disc type with hydraulic brake booster. The front brakes are a 4-piston power assisted brakes while the rear brakes have 2-piston.

In addition to the Multi-terrain 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) to ensure balanced braking and Brake Assist (BA) to optimize use of ABS, there are some other interesting features in this Land Cruiser.

The front and rear torque distribution is controlled by Toyota’s new TORSEN LSD (Limited slip differential) in centre differential with maximum front torque rising up to of 50 % and rear torque up to 70%. This full time functioning system helps to keep the giant vehicle stable on turns and slippery roads. Multi-terrain ABS is endowed with a new logic that instantly detects off road driving conditions and automatically switches to optimum ABS for a particular surface like sand.

There are plenty of safety features in Toyota Land Cruiser 200 given the fact that it is meant to conquer all kind of terrains. To start with there are 10 SRS airbags that comprises dual stage driver and front passenger airbag, knee airbags for driver and front passenger and side and curtain shield airbags for 1st and 2nd row passengers. The front passenger airbags trigger on basis of passenger detection system.

Adaptive Traction Control system (ATCS) prevents all four wheels from spinning minimizing the chances of loosing vehicle control on slippery roads. Vehicle Stability control automatically controls brake pressure and engine output when a possibility lateral skidding is detected. This prevents vehicle from moving off-road. Cameras mounted on ORVM, front and rear with back sonar system and multi terrain mirror serve as a back guide and decrease chances of bumping vehicle into obstacles. With the robust steel body and technologically advanced drive assistant and safety features, Land Cruiser 200 models a reliable vehicle that can escape most tight spots.
