BMW is one of the most luxurious car makers in the country and has been offering a variety of cars to the Indian consumers since a long time. Now BMW has launched its small car brand-Mini. The first Mini car was introduced in the year of 1959 in a 2 door version and later on this emerged into many other models, which included crossovers and convertibles. Then in the year of 1994, BMW originally took over parent company of Mini and finally from 2000 Mini is fully owned by BMW. The fresh range of Mini cars in India comprise of Countryman, Hatchbacks and Convertible. Among the hatchback, two models have broken cover during Auto Expo, 2012 i.e. Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S.

BMW has acted quite wisely in the country and decided to launch Mini cars as an individual entity, which could help the firm in raising its sales to a great extent. Also, BMW has opened up 2 brand new separate dealerships for Mini cars, in New Delhi and Mumbai.

Mini Hatchbacks have been developed under complete surveillance of its highly qualified engineers. The design of these hatchbacks is cool and trendy. The bulged appearance from all angles renders a cute look to it. The radiator grille outline, air dam outline, headlights along with the tailgate handle bar is finished in chrome. The roof and ORVMs are touched-up with perfect contrast color. The 15 inches of alloy wheels are available in wide range and adds more charm to the look of these cars. These super hot hatches will be technically sound as well. Head lamps are blast from past with the optional bi-xenon technology with adaptive light signifying the future. 

Apparently, the Mini hatchbacks are only launched in petrol variants. The petrol engine has a displacement of 1598cc that is tuned to many different power and torque states. The two hatchbacks which are officially launched i.e. Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S will deliver peak power of 122 horse power at 6000 rpm and 184 hp at 5500 rpm respectively. The former will churn out 160 Nm of torque at 4250 rpm while the latter Sports version will give out 240 Nm of torque at 1600-5000 rpm. Mini Cooper car can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a decent 10.4 sec and Cooper S can accelerate 0-100 kmph in 7.2 seconds. The super cool hatches can attain a top speed of 197 kmph and 223 kmph respectively, quite impressive seeing their size. The mileage of Mini Cooper hatch is very poor at 15.2 kmpl (combined). The engines will be coupled with the six speed automatic transmission.

Mini Cooper hatchback has great fan following, reason being that this car possesses the most impressive specifications that a hatchback car has in the country. Mini Cooper is likely to come with high safety sensors, which perceive the crash or accident situation beforehand and then instigates all the safety systems present in the car. Mini hatchback car will not be able to boast of its mileage as mileage figures are too low for this car. The combined fuel consumption is 15.2 kmpl for both Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S. Actually, Mini Cooper is performance car tuned for spitting power and so mileage offered is poor. However, Variable valve timing is present which enhances the fuel efficiency of these cars. Still, the figures are not at all lucrative.

The Mini hatchback is launched in the country. Mini Cooper comes in a 1598 cc petrol engine. The engine will make for a peak power of 122 horse power at 6000 rpm along with 160 Nm of torque at 4250 rpm whereas the Mini Cooper S engine (with same displacement) produces 184 hp of power at 5500 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 1600-5000 rpm.

The new range of cars from Mini brand have hit Indian roads by accelerating from 0-100 km/h in just 10.4 seconds with a top speed of a massive 197 km/h (Mini Cooper) and 7.2 seconds with a top speed of 223 kmph (Mini Cooper S). The small size of these hatchback cars may be deceptive because the pick-up of Mini cars is great.

If a buyer would have to rank features of these hatchback cars from 1 to 10, exteriors of Mini hatch would definitely be on the top. BMW has brought the most exclusive looking car brand to India. Mini Cooper has a vintage touch to it. Many critics say that Mini Cooper looks like go kart and is fun to drive. Mini Cooper will find a lot of buyers owing to its cute looks. The car bulges from everywhere and there are curves and circles wherever one sees. The bonnet has two broad lines painted as an option in white as if protecting the Mini badge between them. The headlights are round in shape with optional bi xenon technology. The white side direction indicator lights are built in special Cooper S design elements. Radiator grille is filled with chrome heavily. A hexagonal grille with 3 chrome slats looks pleasing. In Cooper S, the grille is formed of black mesh. Body color bumper follows the bonnet incorporating the round clear fog lamps and black air dam with a chrome band over it in Mini Cooper.

Side profile is also as interesting as front. The wheels are the most lovable part. Alloy wheels very calmly take the burden of this cute hatch. These alloy wheels are covered by black wheel arches which runs along the lower side of the car (in front as well as in length). Just above the wheel arches are side scuttles which are integrated with turn indicators. Wing mirrors are capped in black checkered graphics to enhance contrast color according to body color and aggravates to the sporty quotient. The pillars are done in black trim among while B Pillar and C pillars are extremely sleek. This is a two door car and the C pillar has the fuel lid near it. Roof has a rear spoiler (black or white color) and antenna for aerodynamics of Mini Cooper.

Coming to the rear, the rear fog lights and reversing lights are integrated in rear bumper. Chrome tipped tail lamp (1 in Mini Cooper and 2 in Mini Cooper S) just steal million hearts. The miniscule rear wiper looks cute on rear windscreen which has a high mount stop lamps. On the lower front, one can find chrome tipped exhaust shedding luxury to the car. On the other hand, Mini Cooper S is a complete spots package on outside. An air scoop on bonnet, black-meshed radiator grille, air intakes for brake-cooling in the lower grille, centrally positioned dual tailpipes and sturdy rear spoiler are the key highlights of this variant.

The interiors of Mini Cooper are stunning. The roundish design element which was visible outside the car follows inside too. Even at low speeds, Mini Cooper engine shows commendable performance and explodes with energy. This results in more power and torque. The engine is mated to Continuously Variable automatic Transmission (CVT) with Steptronic mode. Tank capacity is said to be 40 litres in Mini Cooper and 50 litres in Mini Cooper S.
