Maruti Ritz was one of the most awaited and hyped car from Maruti Suzuki India. This hatch is positioned in the premium A2 market segment, which includes its compact offerings such as Alto, Wagon R, Swift, Zen and A-Star. The engineers from Maruti Suzuki worked at close quarters with their Japanese counterparts in the development of the Maruti Ritz, much like that for the A-Star. Maruti Udhyog Limited went the complete distance to ensure that the Ritz manages to make an impact on the cut-throat A-2 hatchback space.

The all new Maruti Ritz is surely a head turner with ultimate design and mind blowing style with technology and power attached to it. The diesel version of Maruti Ritz is packed with 1.3L, 1248cc DDiS engine with 5 speed manual transmission gearbox that offers greater mileage and acceleration to the car. This DDiS engine is extremely frugal and delivers a mileage of 23.2kmpl and offers an impressive power of 73.9bhp at 4000 rpm and a torque of 190Nm at 2000 rpm.

The boomerang tail lights and the bold and clear curved headlight gives a more clear vision and offers a class of style and elegant look to the overall exterior of the car. Maruti India introduced a newfangled avatar of its Ritz diesel model line-up in 2012, wherein the company not only added a new high end variant Maruti Ritz ZDI but also added 52 exciting changes such as all new front design with smiling grille, two -tone interiors,,multi-information display on instrument panel, new audio system with USB, electrically adjustable ORVMsrear view mirrors and body side moulding. Not only on the feature level the car was improved the company also tweaked the engine to provide a better mileage; the figure was improved to 10% which was the result of use of reduced friction engine and calibration optimization. The modish styling of 2012 Maruti Ritz  is improved with a new front fascia with a smiling grille, stylish headlamps, new bumper, and integrated rear spoiler . For consumer comfort the Japanese auto major added improved lumbar support and made the interiors more dynamic with the new red dual-tone color scheme.

Editor's take : Fuel efficiency will not be a let down factor as this gets the same DDiS engine, which is known as the multijet.

Maruti Ritz is a very smart and dynamic car that is available in both petrol and diesel variants.  The petrol version of Maruti Ritz is packed with 1.2 L K-12 series petrol engine with a displacement of 1197cc. The BS IV compliant engine offers more power and higher engine response leading to a smoother drive. This compact diesel engine is incredibly fuel efficient and offers a mileage of 19.5 kmpl in the city roads and 23.2 kmpl on the highways (as per ARAI) .

Editor's take : The drivability on both is good, and even the gearbox is slick. The gearing is also good for linear power delivery.

Editor's take : The acceleration of the Ritz is good for a hatchback. It does well in terms of outright performance as both the engines are peppy.

The acceleration of any car is mainly dependent on the power, torque and transmission gearbox of the car. Editor's take : Ritz is based on the platform of the old Swift, but being a tall boy there is sufficient space on the inside. The fit and finish of the plastic is also decent and the bells and whistles on the offering are good. There isn’t much to complain about the Ritz, except the fact that it now looks aged when compared to competition

Editor's take : The Ritz being softly sprung, its ride is well compliant. The handling might just not impress you too much, as there is some amount of body roll. The Ritz isn’t made for driving enthusiasts.

The front brakes of Maruti Ritz are Ventilated Disc brakes and the rear brakes drum brakes which offers very safe drive in case of unexpected surprises in the road.
