Arguably, this hatchback series is a stylish vehicle available in the hatchback segment. It carries the Fluidic design philosophy, which makes it look eye-catching like any other company's model. The main highlight is its front facade where it is fitted with stylish cosmetics like wraparound headlight cluster and a chrome radiator grille. Ed's Take: The interiors of the Grand i10 are modern and do feel the next generation of the currently sold cars. The instrument panel is based on the same other Hyundai vehicles. The space offered for even the second row passengers is sufficient, and better than most of the other vehicles in this segment.

The internal cabin of this vehicle is designed with a dual tone (Beige and Black) color scheme, which is complemented by blue interior illumination and gives it a decent look. It is incorporated with well cushioned seats that provides enough leg space for all occupants. These are covered with premium fabric upholstery. While the seats of 'SportZ Edition' trim gets full cloth upholstery with red inserts. Acceleration & Pick-Up

Ed's Take: The acceleration produced by the Grand i10 is good as well.

The petrol version is perkier in terms of pickup and acceleration as it can break a 100 Kmph speed mark in less than 15 seconds. At the same time, it can achieve a top speed of 150 kmph. While the LPG version takes about 18 to 19 seconds to breach a 100 Kmph speed mark and it can go up to a top speed of 140 Kmph. On the other hand, its diesel variants have the ability to reach a top speed of 145 Kmph. It can accelerate towards 100 Kmph speed mark from a standstill in approximately 18 seconds, which is quite good.

Engine and Performance

Ed's Take: The performance of both the engines is good and one can potter around even when lugged into a higher gear.

This sub 4-meter hatchback series is available in petrol, diesel and LPG fuel options for the buyers to choose from. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.2-litre Kappa dual VTVT engine, which comes with a displacement capacity of 1197cc. It is capable of generating a maximum power of 81.6bhp at 6000rpm along with a peak torque output of 113.75Nm at 4000rpm. It is paired by a five speed manual or four speed automatic transmission gear box depending upon the variants. This engine is integrated with 4-cylinders and 16-valves using a DOHC based valve configuration. On the other hand, diesel trims are fitted with a 1.1-litre U2 engine that can displace 1120cc. This 3-cylinder based mill is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which sends the engine power to its front wheels. This power plant can churn out 70bhp at 4000rpm in combination with 159.8Nm between 1500 to 2750rpm. The LPG variant is packed with a 1.0-litre bi-fuel engine that can displace 998cc. In petrol mode, it has the ability to generate 68.05bhp at 6200rpm in combination with 92.18Nm at 3500rpm. At the same time, when it is driven in the LPG mode, produces 66.08bhp at 6200rpm along with 90.2Nm at 3500rpm.

Mileage

Ed's Take: The petrol engine on the Grand i10 is the tried and tested and it returns a good figure of 12km/l under normal driving conditions.

Its recently introduced LPG variant is equipped with a 1.0-litre, Kappa Dual VTVT engine that is incorporated with a multipoint fuel injection system. This mill allows the vehicle to produce a maximum mileage of 18.9 Km/Kg on highways, which goes down to a minimum of 15.9 Km/kg on city roads. Its petrol variants are equipped with a 1197cc engine that is also incorporated with MPFI fuel supply system. Its manual version has the ability to produce a maximum mileage of 18.9 Kmpl, while its automatic version can deliver between 15 to 17 kmpl. On the other hand, its diesel version is incorporated with a common rail direct injection system that generates a peak mileage of 24 Kmpl, which is quite good.

Power of Hyundai Grand i10

Ed's Take: The power produced by the diesel and petrol engines is good on paper and even in the real world.

Its petrol variants are equipped with a peppy 1.2-litre engine based that has VTVT technology and is based on a DOHC valve configuration. Both its manual and automatic versions have the ability to churn out a maximum power of 81.86bhp along with a commanding torque output of 114Nm. While its LPG version can belt out 66bhp that yields a peak torque of 90Nm. However, when it is switched to petrol mode, it pumps out 68bhp along with 92Nm of maximum torque. On the other hand, its diesel variants have been fitted with a second generation U2 engine that has the ability to produce 70bhp of superior power that results in generating 159.8Nm, which is good.

Accessories

Stereo & Accessories

Ed's Take: The Grand i10 comes loaded with inbuilt music system, keyless entry, push start and stop, Bluetooth connectivity.

The Sportz and Asta trims are bestowed with an advanced music system, which supports CD/MP3 player, radio with AM/FM tuner, four speakers along with Bluetooth connectivity. The 'SportZ Edition' is incorporated with a multi-functional steering wheel, full cloth upholstery in red finish, rear spoiler, B-pillar blackout along with stylish body decals. HMIL always brings a number of accessories for its cars, which enables its buyers to get it customized as per their taste. The base variant lacks many features, but buyers can decorate it with exciting aspects like vibrant seat covers, premium quality upholstery, a sophisticated music system, leather covered steering wheel, floor mats, rear parking sensors and many other such features. At the same time, the owners can also decorate the exteriors with additional aspects like mud guard covers, body graphics, rear spoiler, alloy wheels, roof rails, protective cladding, turn indicator on ORVMs and so on.

You can now buy Hyundai Grand i10 accessories online. Great discounts available.

Braking & Handling

Ed's Take: The handling of the Grand i10 is good for what purpose it has been built. There is a good amount of body roll, but it hasn’t been designed to be driven fast around a track and even on winding roads at speeds in three digits.

Ride quality of this company's cars have always been a strong selling point and in this model just gets better. The suspension setup is aptly done, its front axle is assembled with a McPherson strut, while the rear is fitted with a coupled torsion beam axle type of mechanism. Meanwhile, the front and rear wheels are equipped with a set of disc and drum brakes respectively. The Asta Option variants are also equipped with anti lock braking system, which prevents the vehicle from skidding. It also has a motor driven power steering system, which is tilt adjustable and makes handling effortless. This steering wheel supports a minimum turning radius of 4.8 meters.

Safety & Security

Ed's Take: The safety features on the Grand i10 include dual airbags and ABS.

This compact hatchback is offered with a lot of standard protective aspects, which includes an engine immobilizer, central locking system, day/night internal rear view mirror, keyless entry, a high mounted stop lamp, front fog lamps and a pair of bright reflectors on the rear bumper. It has seat belts for all occupants along with driver seat belt warning notification on instrument panel. Apart from these, the SportZ and Asta variants are equipped with keyless entry with smart key, reverse parking sensors and anti lock braking system. It also has airbag for driver and front co-passenger, which adds to their safety quotient.

Wheels

The wheel arches of Asta Option and newly launched 'SportZ Edition' trims are fitted with a classy set of 14 inch 'Diamond Cut' alloy wheels, which are covered with 165/65 R14 sized tubeless radial tyres. While the Asta trim gets clean silver alloy wheels that gives the side profile an elegant look. At the same time, Era, Magna and Sportz variants runs on a sturdy set of 14 inch steel wheels, which are covered with full wheel covers. Look and Style - Good looks from inside and out. Comfort - Front seats are not that comfortable. My max drives are on highways and found it to be tiring. Seats are quite low. For avg tall guy, handling clutch and streering is quite annoying. When you sit close to the pedal, steering is too close. Basically height and length is not matching.
