16 July, 2012 : Ford Motors after re-badging ‘Ford Fiesta Classic’ as ‘Ford Classic’ has rolled out its first variant, Ford Classic Titanium with a price tag of Rs. 6.86 lakh (petrol) and 7.82 lakh (diesel) in New Delhi . Ford is known for its fuel efficient cars and Ford Classic Titanium's diesel and petrol version both are going to carry forward that tradition with a whooping mileage of 32.38 kmpl and 21.27 kmpl respectively (ARAI certified). Apparently Ford has not changed the powertrains firing life into the petrol and diesel variants; the1.6-litre Duratec for petrol and 1.4-litre Duratorq for diesel have remained on board. Ford Classic Titanium comes decked up with features as it is the top end variant of the line-up. The features that have found their way in this new variant are Bluetooth, Speed Sensing volume, new boot spoiler, all new alloys, front and rear fog lights, Drive away locks, body coloured ORVMs. The other variants of Ford Classic are likely to get revamped; however the prices are likely to be slashed in order to give them an edge in the Indian auto industry.

Style, comfort, better engine ride are the things which are being offered by the Ford Classic . In mid-size car category Ford Fiesta provides high stability while on the drive with high comfort level. Solid body of Ford Fiesta can withstand in even the most severe collision. Fabrics of Ford Fiesta are very high quality with very cool and elegant interiors. Cup holders, cigarette lighter jacks, anti roll bars and the music system are some of the standard features of Ford Classic. Moreover the driver side seat is adjustable so that it can offer safe ride even in the harsh situations. This car is attempting to conquer a segment that demands everything, style, engine ride, comfort among other things that make for a good car. It has nice smooth flowing lines, and unlike say the Indigo, Ford Classic head light this car was always designed to be a 3 boxer.
The front of Ford Classic has a slightly mundane look, save for the 'cut into the hood' headlamps and the aggressive fog lamps. The boot is now not as high as the Ford Ikon, fabrics and plastics have been well thought out, there are small little cubby holes here there everywhere, there are 2 reversing lights, there are anti-roll bars, the music system is improved and overall, the car seems quite deserving of the effort that has gone into it. This car has been thoroughly engineered, from tip to toe. Very fresh interiors; with loads and loads of chrome thrown in liberally. The air conditioner vents of Ford Classic are different and resemble the ones on the Chevrolet Aveo; which close completely shut, which we have already tested; which came first is not really the issue here.
Ford has incorporated many clever features to the dash, such as the cigarette lighter jack is tucked away from immediate field of vision, the cup holders integrated into the rear arm rest, the single cup holder that becomes two on demand and so on. The driver side seat is adjustable for height, but the mechanism is bit peculiar. It almost feels like you are using a Ford Classic tail light roadside hand pump; but yes it is quite effortless when compared to some which have rotating knobs. Further, the front seats have a lot of play which allows for people who are very tall or very short to be able to find a comfortable position, another advantage of the high amount of seat play is that when the front seats are moved all the way forward, huge amounts of rear leg room is liberated. The rear seats fold all the way forward, but are not split. Few things that do bother me include the boot open lid that is on the other side and the fabric on the ZXi model which really could do better, also the single CD on such a high priced car, perhaps also bigger alloys to suit those large wheel wells.

Ford Classic is available with both petrol and diesel engine option. The petrol variants of Ford Fiesta are equipped with the 1.6L Duratec petrol engine with a five speed manual gearbox giving high engine performance with better fuel efficiency - it provides 10.5kmpl mileage in city road conditions while on highway it provides 15.3kmpl mileage on the other hand the diesel variants of Ford Classic are powered by a 1.4L, Duratorq TDCi diesel engine with two-stage fuel injection system with APC (Accelerometer Pilot Control) giving smooth riding with increased fuel efficiency and offers mileage 21.37kmpl in city and 32.38kmpl mileage on highway roads .

Editor's take : The power ratings of both the engines are decent, but it is the real world delivery that is phenomenal.
Ford Classic is available with two different powered engine options. As we it is available with seven variants out of which its four variants are powered by petrol engine and rest three variants are powered by diesel engine. The petrol variants of Ford Fiesta are powered by a 1.6L, 1596cc, Duratec petrol engine that produces 101bhp power at 6500rpm and 146Nm of maximum torque at 3400rpm . On the other the hand diesel variants of Ford Classic are powering by a 1.4L, 1399cc, Duratorq TDCi diesel engine with five speed manual gear-box that producing maximum power of 67bhp at 4000rpm and 160Nm of maximum torque at 2000rpm.

Acceleration & Pick-Up
Editor's take : The acceleration of both the mills are good and the petrol version was a favourite of the enthusiasts.
The 1.6L, 1596cc Duratec DOHC engine which is powering the petrol variants of Ford Classic producing excellent acceleration to break the barrier of 100kmph in just 11.43 seconds and make it able to achieve the top speed mark of 170kmph . On the other hand its another engine option a 1.4L, Duratorq, TDCi engine that is powering diesel variants of Ford Fiesta also offers good acceleration to cross the mark of 100kmph in just 12.8 seconds and are able to touch the top speed mark of 165kmph.

Despite being 67bhp, the power delivery is good and the performance is decent. It doesn’t struggle when lugged in a higher cog and it doesn’t even have a prominent turbo lag.

Ford India has launched the “One Tank.1500Kms.One Classic Story” campaign on August 10 with its newly launched Ford Classic Titanium. The campaign will provide a platform for 11 individuals to embark on an amazing drive to live their dreams. Each team has been given a Ford Classic Titanium series with one tank full of fuel. These individuals, who have been chosen from various walks of life, have been paired with a cinematographer on their drive, who will capture their dream journey on video. The eight cars with 11 participants will be flagged off from Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai.
