Overview

Ford Classic sedan is one of the affordable model series from the company's illustrious stable. This sedan gives direct competition to Chevrolet Sail, Toyota Etios, Fiat Linea Classic and others in its segment. This model series is available in three trim levels, which are LXI, CLXI and Titanium with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variants are equipped with a 1.6-litre, in-line engine, which can displace 1596cc. It has the ability to churn out a maximum power output of 99.6bhp in combination with 146Nm of peak torque. It is incorporated with a SEFI supply system, which helps in improving its fuel economy. On the other hand, the diesel variants are fitted with a 1.4-litre power plant that can displace 1399cc. It can produce 67bhp along with a torque of 160Nm that is rather good for this segment. The braking mechanism is quite efficient as its front and rear wheels are equipped with ventilated disc and self adjusting drum brakes respectively. Meanwhile, the front axle is assembled with an independent McPherson strut with offset coil spring. While the rear axle gets semi-independent heavy duty twist beam with twin tube dampers. The braking mechanism of its top end trim is further assisted by anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution. The company has bestowed this stylish sedan with eye-catching exteriors and comfortable interiors. It is designed with a bold radiator grille with a prominent company emblem in the center. It is flanked by well designed crystal barrel headlight cluster that amplifies the front. Its side profile is dominated by strong character lines that gives it a captivating look. In terms of interiors, it has a spacious dual tone cabin, which is incorporated with a lot of features. Other standard aspects include an advanced instrument panel with illumination, soft touch plastics and contrasting fabric upholstery for the seats. Its instrument panel is incorporated with a number of functions, which includes a digital tripmeter, headlamp-on notification, door ajar warning lamp, a tachometer, low fuel warning light and driver seat belt notification. The seats are well cushioned and integrated with head restraints. These provide ample leg space and shoulder room for all passengers. The dual tone dashboard is equipped with a leather wrapped steering wheel (apart from base variant), a large glove box and AC vents. On the other hand, it also has quite a few safety aspects like collapsible steering column, three point seat belts, dual airbags and passive anti theft system for safety of the vehicle. This Ford Classic sedan has an aerodynamically designed body structure featuring several attractive features. To start with the front fascia, it is designed with a bold radiator grille, which is embedded with a prominent company logo in the center. It is surrounded by a well designed crystal barrel headlight cluster that is incorporated with powerful headlamps and side turn indicator. The body colored bumper has a wide air dam for cooling the engine. The air dam of its top end trim is flanked by a couple of round shaped fog lamps that further improves the visibility ahead. The windscreen is made of green tinted glass and it is integrated with a pair of intermittent wipers. The side profile is elegantly designed and has a few expressive lines. The base variant has black colored door handles and wing mirrors, while other trims get body colored ones. The ORVMs of Titanium variant have electrically adjustable function and has integrated turn blinker as well. The neatly carved wheel arches of LXI and CLXI are equipped with a robust set of steel wheel, which also has full wheel covers. Whereas, the Titanium trim has an elegant set of alloy wheels, which enhances the look of its side profile. On the other hand, the rear end has a body colored bumper and a curvy boot lid, which is embossed with variant badging. Its windscreen is integrated with an intelligent defogger and a centrally located high mounted stop lamp. Lastly, it has roof mounted antenna, which provides better reception of FM radio.

Exterior Measurements:

The overall dimensions are quite decent and can easily accommodate five passengers. It has a large wheelbase of about 2486mm that ensure ample leg space inside the cabin. Its minimum ground clearance is about 168mm. Its overall length measures about 4282mm along with a total height of 1468mm and a decent width of 1686mm (including external rear view mirrors). At the same time, its fuel tank has the capacity to store 45 litres of fuel, which is perfect for planning longer journeys. Editor's take : The Classic now shares most of the interior bit with the Figo and this has helped Ford to reduce the cost of the vehicle. The Classic is has spacious and decent quality interiors.

 

The vehicle has a roomy internal cabin that is elegantly designed with dual tone color scheme (Ebony and Jasper Blue). However, its top end trim gets Ebony and Camel finished interiors. It is equipped with well cushioned seats, which are integrated with head restraints. These seats are covered with fabric upholstery and provide enough leg space and shoulder room for minimum five passengers. Its rear seat has a 100 percent folding facility, which helps in increasing the boot volume. Apart from the base variant, its remaining variants have driver seat with height adjustable function. Its two tone dashboard is equipped with a few features like AC vents, a large glove box, an instrument panel and a three spoke steering wheel. The illuminated instrument panel houses features like distance to empty display, a digital tachometer, headlamp-on and door ajar warning notification, low fuel warning lamp and an electronic multi-tripmeter. This sedan has a lot of utility based features like drink holders, front seat back pockets, bottle holder in front doors, front and rear map lamps. It also has a 430-litre boot compartment, which can be extended further owing to its split folding rear seat. Apart from these, it also has electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, all four power windows with driver side auto down function, electric boot release function and so on. Whereas, the top end variant is also incorporated with intelligent rear defogger, rear center arm rest, adjustable rear head restraints, drive away locks and many other such aspects.

Interior Comfort:

This sedan series is equipped with a lot of sophisticated aspects that provides a pleasurable driving experience to the occupants. It is incorporated with an efficient air conditioning unit with recirculation and heater, which regulates the cabin air. It has a lot of utility based aspects like a large glove box, small tray in center console, front and rear door trims with magazine pockets, cup holders in rear center armrest and remote fuel lid opener. Apart from the base variant, its remaining variants have an audio unit featuring a radio and MP3 player along with speakers. The top end Titanium trim also has speed sensing volume control function and it has USB interface along with an Aux-in port. The tilt adjustable steering wheel makes handling quite convenient even in heavy traffic condition. Editor's take : The acceleration of both the mills are good and the petrol version was a favourite of the enthusiasts.

 

The petrol variants are equipped with a 1.6-litre engine, which is cleverly mated with a five speed manual transmission gear box. It allows the sedan to achieve a maximum speed of 170 Kmph, which is quite good. At the same time, it can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph from a standstill in close to 11.43 seconds. On the other hand, the 1.4-litre diesel engine is paired with the same five speed manual transmission gear box, which powers the vehicle to zoom towards a maximum speed of 165 Kmph. It can accelerate from 0-100 Kmph in close to 12.8 seconds.

Editor's take : The petrol engine of the Classic is the most affordable performance engine one can procure, while the diesel is one of the most frugal diesel mills. Despite being 67bhp, the power delivery is good and the performance is decent. It doesn’t struggle when lugged in a higher cog and it doesn’t even have a prominent turbo lag.

 

As said above, this Ford Classic sedan series is available in both petrol and diesel engine options for the buyers to select from. The petrol variants are fitted with a 1.6-litre, In-line Duratec engine, which comes with a displacement capacity of 1596cc. Editor's take : The Ford Classic gets the 1.4-litre DuraTorq engine of Ford, which is one of the most efficient engines. The 1.6-litre petrol is more of a performer than fuel-efficient.

 

The 1.6-litre petrol engine is incorporated with a sequential electric fuel injection (SEFI) supply system, which allows the sedan to deliver a healthy fuel economy. Under standard driving conditions, it gives close to 14.6 Kmpl. While in the city traffic conditions, it has the ability to produce 10.4 Kmpl. On the other hand, the 1.4-litre diesel engine is integrated with an advanced common rail based direct injection fuel supply system. It has the capacity of delivering a decent mileage of 19.68 Kmpl on the bigger roads. At the same time, on the city roads, it returns 17 Kmpl, which is rather good.

    Look and Style - good. Comfort- good. Pickup- good with 1.6l engine. Mileage - worst (its 8-1- kmpl. Ford is misguiding people by saying the milage is 21kmpl). Ford is not trusted anymore. Every time i used to see in news paper that figo vs swift, even their showroom they put verna vs fiesta. What they are saying al all wrong.
