Acceleration & Pick-Up

Ed's Take : The acceleration of the T-Jet is amazing and it is first turbo-petrol in its segment. The power produced by this is good and it produces about 114bhp.

The four cylinder based diesel engine is skilfully coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box, which helps in delivering decent acceleration and pickup. It has the ability to attain a maximum speed in the range of 160 to 165 Kmph that is quite decent for this segment. At the same time, it cam accelerate from zero to 100 Kmph in close to 13.6 seconds . While 1.4-litre petrol engine is also coupled with the same five speed manual gear box and it allows the sedan to attain a top speed of 165 Kmph. It can cross the speed barrier of 100 Kmph in about 12.6 seconds from a standstill.

Engine and Performance

Ed's Take : The Linea performs well in the city and the highway. The diesel has some turbo-lag and this means some extra effort in shifting gears in the city.

This stylish sedan is introduced with petrol and diesel engine options for the customers to choose from. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.4-litre motor that is capable of displacing 1368cc. It comes with four cylinders and sixteen valves. This powerful mill is based on a double overhead camshaft valve configuration and is integrated with a multi point fuel injection system. It has the ability to churn out a peak power of 88.7bhp at 6000rpm and yields a maximum torque output of 115Nm at 4500rpm. The diesel trims are equipped with a performance packed 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine that has the displacement capacity of 1248cc. It carries 4-cylinders, sixteen valves and is based on a dual overhead camshaft valve configuration. The maximum power generated by this mill comes to 75bhp at 4000rpm, whereas it produces 197Nm torque output at 1750rpm, which is quite good. The manufacturer has skillfully coupled both the engines with a five speed manual transmission gear box that allows torque distribution to its front wheels.

Fiat Linea TachoMeter
Mileage

Ed's take: The Linea will retain the same engines, hence there won’t be a major change in the fuel economy of the sedan. It will still boost the 1.4-litre petrols and 1.3-litre diesel mills. The diesel will be the most fuel-efficient of the lot.

The petrol variants are equipped with a 1.4-liter engine, which is incorporated with a multi point fuel injection supply system. It allows the sedan to deliver 11.4 Kmpl in the city traffic conditions. While its mileage goes up to 14.9 Kmpl on the bigger roads. On the other hand, the 1.3-litre multijet diesel engine is incorporated with a common rail based direct injection fuel supply system that helps in delivering 19.5 Kmpl on the highways and 16.2 Kmph within the city , which is quite decent for this segment.

Power of Fiat Linea

Ed's Take : The power produced by the diesel engine is good, however the power from the petrol is even better. The T-Jet is one of the most powerful cars in its segment.

The DOHC based diesel power plant has the ability to churn out a power output of 74.9bhp at 4000rpm in combination with a peak torque output of 197Nm at 1750rpm. Whereas, the 1368cc petrol engine can generate 88.8bhp at 6000rpm along with 115Nm of torque at 4500rpm , which is pretty good for this segment.

Braking & Handling

Ed's Take : The braking and the handling of the Fiat Linea is just amazing. It is probably one of the best in its segment.

The automaker has fitted its front wheels with a set of ventilated disc brakes and used sturdy drum brakes for the rear ones. This mechanism is further assisted by anti-lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution. On the other hand, its front axle is assembled with an independent wheel, while the rear one gets a torsion beam type of suspension. These axles are further loaded with helical coil springs, double acting telescopic dampers and stabilizer bar that helps to keep it stable and tackle all the jerks caused on roads. It is incorporated with a hydraulic power assisted steering system that is highly responsive. It has tilt adjustment function and supports a minimum turning radius of 5.4 meters.

Safety & Security

Ed's Take : The safety features on the Linea include dual airbags and ABS. The handling of this Italian sedan is just stunning and is one of the USPs.

Fiat Linea Classic is incorporated with several safety aspects, which ensures proper security of the occupants. The list of advanced features in the Classic Plus variant includes central door lock system, rear windscreen with defogger, exact door open indicators and anti-lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution that avoids skidding of vehicle. It has driver seat belt notification, which is displayed on the instrument panel. The fire prevention system helps in cutting off the fuel supply in case of car crash. The engine immobilization device is available with rolling codes and prevents it from any unauthorized entry. In addition to these, it has engine and gear box shield, double crank prevention system and a pair of rear fog lamps that adds to the safety quotient.
