BMW 1 Series Review
Description
Pictures of camouflaged the 5 door variant started appearing as soon as BMW 1 series launch in India date nears. The BMW 1-series is a small premium hatchback that has many similarities with the BMW 3 Series cars. Especially the structure and chassis are alike in both the car series. The powertrain, hardware and electronic elements inside the BMW 1 Series are also quite the same as the BMW 3 Series. This small car by BMW was initially launched (not in India) as a five-door hatchback but later BMW also came up with a two-door sports version as well in 2007. At the time of its launch BMW has priced the BMW 1 Series between the BMW Mini and BMW E90 3 Series. The BMW 1 Series is the only rear wheel drive car in its segment. Internationally the BMW 1 Series line is manufactured at Leipzig, Germany.
The car has BMW’s EfficientDynamics in place that ascertains that the car emits less pollutants and gives ultimate driving pleasure. Initial reports suggest that India would get the five-door version of BMW 1 Series but speculations are also on that the three-door version could also be there.
BMW 1 Series is expected to be available in India in four-cylinder engine options. The 116i base model comes with a petrol driven 1.6 liter direct injection 136bhp engine while there is a 170 bhp engine in the BMW 118i. The BMW 1 Series will also be available in a range of diesel engines that is hope to be a 2.0 liter engine with 116bhp, 143bhp and 184bhp power. At a later stage BMW 1 Series will also be available in 2.0 liter engines in India as it is presently in the BMW 120d. There are also reports that the hatchback will also be available in three-cylinder economical engine options as well.
The BMW 1 Series 3-door has sporting qualities that are quite distinguishable. Being the first in the class car to have a rear wheel drive, the compact car delivers exceptional performance with incomparable dynamism. With such power underneath, the BMW 1 Series zooms to its best by bringing in whole of the power of the engine on the roads. The BMW 1 Series also is equipped with equal axle load distribution coupled with Active Steering which is available only in the BMW 1 Series 130i outputs effortless driving pleasure and agility to the car while on the drive or at the time of parking.
On the other hand the BMW 1 Series 5-door car, which has more probability to hit Indian roads, has a perfect blend of agility and elegance. The elongated bonnet coupled with front and rear seats inside present dynamism to the car and the looks moving even when it is stationary, this is what BMW calls dynamism in its cars. The hatchback BMW 1 Series is controlled by Dynamic Stability Control that detects every move of the drive and intervenes if necessary; therefore, we can be sure that any oversteering or understeering will be handled by DSC well. The BMW 1 Series engines are also equipped with Intelligent Energy Management feature. The system turns off the engines at places where no power is needed such as at traffic lights. The Brake Energy Regeneration Mechanism also has prominence in the BMW 1 Series and with it no energy goes waste during braking and is utilized in generating power. The two systems hand-in-hand makes the BMW 1 Series a car with improved performance and fuel efficient. When such energy saving and fuel efficient mechanism are tuned in with a six speed transmission it is sure that all the power of the engines are transmitted on to the road.
