It arrives as an alternative to the likes of the Mercedes AMG EQS 53 and Audi RS e-tron GT

BMW has just launched the i7 M70 xDrive as the performance variant of its flagship luxury electric sedan. The i7 M70 has a few cosmetic changes in its exterior and interior design, and packs a more powerful electric motor. Here, we’ll see how this new sporty electric sedan fares against the two other sporty EVs offered in India: the Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS 53 and the Audi RS e-Tron GT.

The biggest of the 3 electric sedans is the BMW i7 M70, but the AMG EQS 53 is not far behind. There is a noticeable difference in the length of both cars, but the rest of the dimensions are not so different. The more dynamically proportioned Audi RS e-Tron GT, on the other hand, is a lot smaller than the two luxurious offerings.

Talking about the design, the BMW EV has a more rectangular shape with straight lines and flat panels, the AMG EQS 53 is more curvy, which results in its better aerodynamics, and the RS e-Tron GT carries a more traditional sports coupe-like design language. This also translates to a more opulent rear passenger space of the BMW and Mercedes EVs compared to the Audi alternative listed here.

All three cars come with a dual motor all-whell-drive setup and big battery packs. The BMW and Mercedes-Benz EVs get similarly sized battery packs and similar claimed ranges. The AMG EQS 53 is not only the most powerful out of the three, but also has the highest range, though the RS e-Tron is the quickest to 100kmph, even with a less powerful motor.

In terms of features, the BMW i7 M70 packs a lot more technology compared to its competition. While the AMG EQS does have a bigger touchscreen (the entire dashboard essentially) on offer, the BMW EV offers a better rear seat experience. When it comes to safety, the Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS 53 takes the lead with more airbags and better driver assist tech.

The BMW i7 M70 xDrive and the Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS 53 are both similarly priced and offer similar features. If you’re looking for a luxury EV that can offer tech, comfort and performance in one package, you can easily consider both of them but the BMW has the edge for the rear seat experience. The Audi Rs e-Tron GT, on the other hand, has a big price difference from the two, and so is comparatively more accessible as it lacks the luxury equipment, space and range by comparison.
