The mid-size Mahindra is also likely to feature level one autonomous driver assistance technologies

  • Mahindra XUV500 2021 to get connected screens like new-age Mercedes-Benz cars.

  • The touchscreen and instrument cluster look bigger than a 10-inch unit.

  • Mahindra likely to offer a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine with the new-gen XUV500.

  • Launch expected in early-2021 with prices likely to range between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 20 lakh.

Mahindra might have taken its own sweet time in the second-gen XUV500’s development but it seems like all that could be worth the wait. After being spied with provisions for level one autonomous features, the 2021 XUV500’s interior has now been spotted with a single-frame housing for the touchscreen infotainment unit and the instrument cluster.

There’s no word on the size of its touchscreen but it looks bigger than a 10-inch unit while the instrument console screen could be a tad smaller than the former. The touchscreen will definitely offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto whereas the instrument console could feature a digital driver display with provision for relaying media and vital statistics of the car. The MG Hector, currently, has the biggest 10.4-inch touchscreen in the segment.

Given the availability of these features, it won’t be unreasonable to expect wireless charging and connected technology as well. Previous sightings of the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 have revealed LED illumination all around and Range Rover Evoque-like flush-fitting outside door handles.

Next-gen Mahindra XUV500 Looks Production-ready, Well Almost

The upcoming XUV500 could be powered by a set of 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, both of which can be seen underneath the new Thar’s bonnet as well. That said, they will be tuned for more grunt given that this is a bigger and pricier SUV. Expect Mahindra to offer an automatic option in addition to the manual and AWD (all-wheel-drive) system, just like it used to in the current-gen model until sometime back.

It will square off against the MG Hector, Tata Harrier, MG Hector Plus, Jeep Compass as well as some variants of compact SUVs such as the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. Mahindra could peg the launch in early-2021 with prices between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 20 lakh.
