The festive season is upon us, and in the automotive world it’s usually synonymous with the introduction of new models and special editions. Joining the list are the Jeep Compass Black Shark and the Jeep Meridian Overland editions. Not only that, the American marque is now also offering the Compass in new 4x2 diesel variants (exclusive for India) with an automatic gearbox as well as a new and more affordable entry-level variant. While the Compass MT now starts at Rs 20.49 lakh, its automatic variants are now priced from Rs 23.99 lakh, making it more affordable by up to a whopping Rs 6 lakh. The Compass Black Shark is priced from Rs 26.49 lakh.

Here’s what each special edition has to offer:

Compass Black Shark Edition

As part of the special edition, the Jeep Compass gets a gloss-black treatment to some of its elements such as the ‘Jeep’ logo, ‘Compass’ moniker on the doors, and ORVM housings. It is also seen with new black alloy wheels. The carmaker has also given it the ‘Black Shark’ emblems on the front fenders to distinguish its special nature, and a differently styled grille with fresh black inserts. A point to note is that the new grille and alloys will be available in the standard MY2024 Compass.

The Jeep Compass Black Shark doesn’t have any direct rivals but the Meridian Overland could be considered as an alternative to the MG Gloster’s Black Storm edition. While the 5-seat SUV goes up against the Hyundai Tucson, Citroen C5 Aircross, and Volkswagen Tiguan, the Meridian competes with the MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner and Skoda Kodiaq.
