Renault’s latest entry into the compact SUV segment, the Kiger, comes equipped with several class-leading features including best-in-class cabin space

The all-new Renault Kiger was recently launched in India at an attractive price of Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom India). Designed and developed for the Indian market, this new sub-4 metre SUV has generated a lot of buzz because it is as striking as the concept. Want to know what else is striking about the Kiger? We’ve put together the five things you should know about this compact SUV:

Stunning Design

The Renault Kiger is a perfect combination of form and functionality. Its dual-tone exteriors, combined with the sculpted bonnet, chrome grille and LED headlamps, set it apart from the crowd. In profile, the SUV is characterised by 16-inch diamond-cut alloys and a coupe-ish roofline. Further, its 205mm ground clearance gives it a butch stance. At the back, the design highlights include C-shaped LED tail lamps, rakish windscreen, and faux skid plate. One unique aspect of the Renault Kiger is its dual-tone paint scheme that will be available across trim levels. That said, the Radiant Red shade is offered only on the top variant of the SUV.

Class-leading Space

Thanks to the versatility of the CMFA+ platform, the Renault Kiger’s cabin offers class-leading space to occupants. The distance between the centre points of front seats is (710mm), the best-in-class, and so is the rear legroom (222mm) and rear elbow room (1,431mm). The Kiger also features a substantial 29-litre onboard storage capacity with four 1-litre bottle holders, two cup holders, a central armrest (7.5-litre), and a glove box (10.5-litre). There’s no holding back on the boot space either as Kiger again offers the best-in-class 405-litre trunk that can be further expanded to an 879-litre boot with the rear bench folded down.

Exclusive Features

Complementing its stylish design and spacious interiors is the exclusive list of features available on the Renault Kiger. The floating 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment offers a plethora of connectivity options including wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay replication, voice command, MP4 video player, and the option to pair up to five devices via Bluetooth.

The first-in-segment PM2.5 Clean Air Filter, which is attached to the ventilation system, gives occupants access to pure breathing air. Multi-Sense settings in higher variants of the Kiger allow the driver to choose from three driving modes: Normal, Eco and Sport. The shift in driving mode is accompanied by an alteration in gas pedal response, gearshift timings (in automatic variant), steering wheel feedback, and the skin of a fully-reconfigurable 7.0-inch TFT instrument cluster. Arkamys 3D sound system powered by eight speakers (four boomers and four tweeters) and smart hands-free are other significant features available on the new Kiger.

Turbocharged Engine and CVT

Renault Kiger is powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which belts out 100PS of max power and 160Nm of max torque. The engine comes equipped with the latest technological innovations and boasts the best-in-class fuel economy of 20km/litre. This turbocharged petrol engine is mated to the 5-speed manual gearbox that sends the power to the front wheels of the SUV. Renault will also offer this engine with the continuously variable transmission (X-TRONIC) to extend choice and convenience to buyers.

The Kiger also comes with a naturally aspirated version of the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine with 72PS and 96Nm on tap. The engine uses either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT (EASY-R) to deliver the optimum mix of performance and fuel efficiency.

Solid Safety and Peace of mind

The Renault Kiger comes equipped with two front and two side airbags, coupled with a solid build quality and high tensile steel body, making it one of the safest SUVs in its segment.  The three-point seatbelt is standard for the front and rear side seats while the middle passenger at the back gets the two-point seatbelt. Further, seatbelt reminders for both front seats have been provided by the company. The compact SUV also features a rear camera parking system with radar sensors and guiding lines for safe and secure parking manoeuvers. The best-in-class turning radius of 5.02-metre also comes in handy while parking the SUV in tight spots.

The Renault Kiger sticks to the French automaker’s customer-centric formula: stunning design, optimum space, class-leading features, and powerful performance. Renault also offers an excellent pan-India sales and service network for a hassle-free buying and ownership experience. With an attractive starting price of Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom India), the Kiger surely seems like a winner from the get-go.
