Its production is slated to end soon and make way for its spiritual successor, the XUV700

  • Mahindra is offering the XUV500 with total discounts of up to Rs 1.9 lakh, second time in a row.

  • The XUV500 was launched in 2011.

  • The nameplate will return in the coming years, albeit as a 5-seater Hyundai Creta rival.

  • Mahindra retails the outgoing XUV500 from Rs 15.53 lakh to Rs 20.04 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra’s mid-size SUV, the XUV500, has been on sale for a decade now. Celebrating this feat, the carmaker has rolled out huge offers on the SUV valid till the end of July 2021. Here’s a look:

The current-gen XUV500 is being offered with maximum offers of up to Rs 1.9 lakh in July 2021. This isn’t the first time the SUV is getting such massive discounts. It was being offered with nearly the same total benefits in June as well. So, if you’re looking to buy the XUV500, this could be your last chance as its production is likely to cease soon to make way for the upcoming XUV700 (the XUV500’s spiritual successor).

Is This the Best Time to Buy the XUV500?

If we consider the top-spec W11 AT OPT priced at Rs 20.04 lakh, it can be availed at around Rs 18 lakh in the best case scenario thanks to the huge discounts. This brings the SUV’s price much closer to those of the range-topping variants of the smaller compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. While the XUV500’s design has started feeling outdated compared to that of the Hyundai-Kia duo, it is still more spacious with a decent equipment list (save for a few misses including a panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats). So if you can ignore these factors, the XUV500 certainly makes for a good value-for-money proposition.

While Mahindra will finally be discontinuing the ageing XUV500 for a brief period, the nameplate will be resurrected in the coming years, albeit as a 5-seater model rivalling the Hyundai Creta rival. Presently, it is a 7-seater SUV offered with a sole 2.2-litre diesel engine, developing 155PS and 360Nm. It comes paired with a 6-speed manual or a torque converter gearbox.

The XUV700, on the other hand, will come with Mahindra’s brand new engines that debuted with the Thar, although in a more powerful state of tune. In the Thar, the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol unit makes 150PS and up to 320Nm, while the 2.2-litre diesel is rated at 130PS and 300Nm. Mahindra is expected to offer the SUV with both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. A segment-first optional all-wheel drive (AWD) will also be available.

Mahindra has priced the outgoing XUV500 from Rs 15.53 lakh to Rs 20.04 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals the likes of the MG Hector, Jeep Compass, and Tata Harrier. The XUV700 is likely to be launched in August at a possible price of Rs 16 lakh and Rs 22 lakh (ex-showroom), which is noticeably higher than the current XUV500’s price range. It will go up against the Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari, and MG Hector Plus.
