  • The C40 Recharge is Volvo’s second EV offering in India after the XC40 Recharge.

  • Borrows the XC40 Recharge’s Thor’s Hammer-shaped LED DRLs and alloy wheels but gets a distinctive sloping roofline.

  • Features on offer include a 9-inch touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof and ADAS.

  • It supports 150kW DC fast charging which can top up its battery from 10-80 percent in 27 minutes.

  • Dual-motor AWD powertrain has a performance rating of 408PS.

Following its India showcase in June 2023, the Volvo C40 Recharge has now gone on sale priced at Rs 61.25 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom pan-India). It is the coupe version of the XC40 Recharge, the electric SUV which it is based on. Volvo will start delivering the C40 Recharge to customers before the end of September.

Sportier Looks

The C40 Recharge’s front is nearly identical to that of the XC40 Recharge which includes the closed grille and Thor’s hammer-shaped LED DRLs. While it gets the same 19-inch alloy wheels as the latter, the C40 Recharge’s major difference in profile is the sloping roofline and sportier rear end for a sportier appearance overall. A funky pair of LED taillights running into the tailgate are the highlights on the SUV coupe’s back.

Familiar On The Inside

Volvo C40 Recharge Interior

As seen with other Volvo cars, the C40 Recharge’s cabin also has a minimalistic appeal with the same layout as the XC40 Recharge. It is the carmaker’s first model to get a completely leather-free interior. The EV’s cabin also features partially recycled upholsteries and carpets.

Equipment On Offer

The Volvo EV is decked with a 9-inch vertically-oriented touchscreen unit, 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, powered front seats with heating and cooling function, a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone climate control, and a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

On the safety front, Volvo has equipped it with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, hill-assist and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance, and blind-spot detection.

Electric Power For The Win

The C40 Recharge is provided with a 78kWh battery pack, offering a WLTP-claimed range of 530km. It has a dual-motor AWD setup making 408PS and 660Nm, good enough to sprint from 0-100kmph in 4.7 seconds.

Volvo has made it capable of supporting 150kW fast charging that helps refill the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 27 minutes.

Competition Check

Volvo’s electric SUV coupe doesn’t have any direct competitors but takes on similarly priced EV offerings such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, BMW i4 and its own sibling, the XC40 Recharge.
