  • The Magnite concept featured rugged styling with plenty of body cladding.

  • Its cabin was equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster and premium interiors.

  • Nissan’s entry into the sub-4m SUV segment will likely be priced from Rs 5.5 lakh onwards.

The upcoming Nissan sub-4m SUV that was recently teased in concept form has been spied testing in Pune. Called the Magnite, it is expected to be launched in India in early 2021.

The Magnite that was spied was completely covered in camouflage, but its proportions seem to be similar to the concept model. It was fitted with some testing equipment mounted to its wheels, so we couldn’t get a look at its wheel-design. Nissan equipped the concept with off-road tyres wrapped around dual-tone, stylised alloys.

A test mule of the Magnite spied earlier was seen to feature the same front-end styling as the concept with the sleek headlamps and L-shaped LED daytime running lights. In profile, the Magnite’s seems like a smaller version of the Nissan Kicks. However, the design details differ greatly with the large grille, front and rear skid plates, chunky rear bumper and the sporty split taillamps.

The carmaker has confirmed that the Magnite will be equipped with a 360-degree view camera. Inside the interior of the concept, we got to see a sleek dashboard design with a horizontal touchscreen infotainment display, triple-dial auto AC with digital displays, and an entirely digital instrument cluster. It also gets a new steering wheel with touch-sensitive controls. While Nissan will likely carry forward the cabin layout to the production model, the premium details are unlikely to be offered on the production-spec Magnite.

Nissan will offer the Magnite with petrol engines which are likely to be the naturally-aspirated and turbocharged versions of the 1.0-litre petrol engine. It will likely be offered with a CVT automatic with the turbo-petrol engine. The Magnite will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Kia Sonet and Renault Kiger. It will likely be priced from Rs 5.5 lakh onwards.
