Tata-owned British luxury carmaker Jaguar has begun accepting bookings from Indian customers for its electric SUV, the I-Pace. The SUV went on sale in Europe in mid-2018 and is expected to arrive in Indian showrooms by the end of 2020. Jaguar will be offering the I-Pace in three variants for India -- S, SE and HSE -- just like they do in the UK.

The electric I-Pace utilises two electric motors, one on each axle, with a combined power output of 400PS and 696Nm. They can individually control the wheels, which also means that the I-Pace has an AWD system, courtesy of which it can go from 0-100kmph in just 4.8 seconds. The electric motors draw their power from a 90kWh battery pack, which gives it a 470km range according to the WLTP cycle (world harmonized light-duty vehicles test procedure). In the real world, we expect this number to drop below 400km. The battery pack is available with a standard 8 years or 1,60,000km warranty.

Apart from this, the I-Pace will also be offering a complimentary 5 year warranty on the rest of the car, a 5 year service package, 5 years of road side assistance, and a 7.4kWh AC wallbox charger. Using the wallbox charger, the I-Pace can be charged from 0 to 100 per cent in almost 13 hours. Using the more potent 50kW DC charger, the I-Pace’s range can be extended by roughly 250km in an hour. Up that to 100kW DC charging and the I-Pace can replenish its range by 127km in just 15 minutes. The electric SUV’s system is altogether capable of handling as high as 150kW of DC charging. Jaguar I-Pace owners will also be able to use the Tata Power network, a set of public electric charging stations that have been set up by Tata and are currently located at more than 200 places in India.

On the features front, LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels, two-zone climate control, ambient lighting, synthetic leather upholstery, 8-way semi-powered heated front seats, torque vectoring, a 10-inch touchscreen, lane keep assist, a 360 degree camera and six airbags are all standard from the base S variant of the I-Pace onwards.

On the mid-spec SE variant, you get further feature additions such as 20-inch alloy wheels, better LED headlights, auto-dimming and heated ORVMs with a memory function, 12-way powered and heated front seats. Blind Spot monitoring is available on the UK spec car but will not be there on the India-spec car.

On the top-of-the-line HSE variant, Jaguar is offering Matrix LED headlights, a powered and gesture controlled tailgate, premium leather sports seats that can be adjusted in 16 different ways and are heated and cooled, a head-up display and adaptive cruise control to set it apart from the rest.

When it is launched, we expect prices of the Jaguar I-Pace to start around the Rs 1 crore mark and go as high as around Rs 1.5 crore. It will rival the Mercedes-Benz EQC in India, which in its single variant, is priced just under the Rs 1 crore mark in India.
