Tata’s EV portfolio will soon see an onslaught of electric SUVs, starting with the Punch EV

Upcoming Tata electric SUVs in 2024

If there’s one carmaker that was quick to action its EV plans in India, it has to be Tata Motors. Back in mid-2021, it had already announced that it will be introducing 10 electric cars by 2025. We have already received three of them in the form of the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Tiago EV, and Tata Tigor EV. Now, the carmaker has a slew of electric SUVs that it plans to launch in the next 12 months or so. Let’s take a look:

Tata Punch EV

Expected Launch- 2023-end/ Early 2024

Expected Price- Rs 12 lakh

The Tata Punch EV has been doing the rounds still in its test mule stage, and approaching production-ready status quite rapidly it seems. It will get some design differences inside and out over the standard Punch, possibly a bigger touchscreen and even the new 2-spoke steering wheel with the backlit ‘Tata’ logo. In terms of safety, it could get up to six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and maybe even a 360-degree camera.

Its electric powertrain is likely to comprise two battery pack options, and if Tata’s recent claims are to be believed, it could offer a claimed range of over 500km. It will sit below the Nexon EV in Tata’s EV lineup.

Tata Curvv EV

Expected Launch- Early 2024

Expected Price- Rs 20 lakh

Tata Curvv EV concept

The Tata Curvv EV is the carmaker’s first SUV-coupe model which will go on sale sometime early next year. It will fill the gap between the Nexon EV and Harrier EV, and will also have an internal combustion engine (ICE) version going on sale later as a rival to the compact SUVs. The Curvv is built on Tata's Gen2 platform and will be powered by a Ziptron EV powertrain too. It might also have a claimed range of up to 500km.

The Curvv may borrow the new Nexon EV’s features set, which consists of a 12.3-inch touchscreen, ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, up to six airbags, and could even get advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Tata Harrier EV

Expected Launch- Early 2024

Expected Price- Rs 30 lakh

Tata Harrier EV

One of the star appearances at the Auto Expo 2023 was the Tata Harrier EV as a close-to-production model. It previewed the Harrier facelift that went on sale recently and has certain EV-specific design touches. While details of its electric powertrain are yet to be disclosed, we do know that the SUV is based on the Land Rover-derived OMEGA-ARC platform. The Harrier EV will also be offered with all-wheel-drive (AWD), thus featuring a dual-motor setup (one on each axle). We believe it will have a claimed range of about 500km as well.

We can expect it to borrow most of its equipment from the standard Harrier, which gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen system, dual-zone AC, up to seven airbags, and even a well-rounded advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite.

Tata Safari EV

Expected Launch- Early 2024

Expected Price- Rs 35 lakh

Tata Safari facelift

The Tata Safari EV was also confirmed at the Auto Expo 2023 on the sidelines of the Harrier EV’s showcase. The EV duo will have almost the same design and features inside and out as seen on their regular ICE counterparts. It will also be based on the Land Rover-sourced OMEGA-ARC platform but its battery pack details are yet unknown. Like the Harrier EV, the Safari EV could be offered with all-wheel-drive (AWD) as well, featuring a dual-motor setup (one on each axle). The Safari EV’s bigger footprint and more weight could translate into it having slightly lesser range than the Harrier EV.

Its equipment set should be mostly identical to that of the standard Safari, which gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen system, dual-zone AC, up to seven airbags, and a more loaded advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite.
