It will have similar design updates as the facelifted Mahindra XUV300, which includes split headlights and new fang-shaped LED DRLs

Mahindra XUV400 facelift spied for the first time

  • Mahindra introduced the XUV400 as its first electric SUV in early 2023.

  • The facelifted model could get new alloy wheels and connected LED taillights.

  • Cabin updates could include a refreshed dashboard design and bigger displays.

  • Battery packs likely to remain the same but could get improved range figures.

  • Launch expected sometime in the second half of 2024.

The Mahindra XUV400 was introduced in early 2023 as the carmaker’s first long-range electric SUV. With its internal combustion engine (ICE) equivalent – the Mahindra XUV300 – set to receive a midlife refresh in 2024, it looks like Mahindra has planned one for the EV as well, as its test mule was seen for the first time.

What’s Different Here?

One of the first things that you will notice on the spied model is the revised fascia, which seems to have retained the copper elements specific to the Mahindra EV models. It now has the same split grille setup, fang-shaped LED DRL, and even split headlights, all of which were seen on the facelifted XUV300’s test mules too. The design seems to have been inspired by Mahindra’s Born Electric (BE) range of EVs.

With the test mule wearing heavy camouflage, the only significant difference visible on its profile is the new set of alloy wheels. There’s no spy shot of the 2024 XUV400’s rear, but it’s expected to get the same updates as the XUV300, including the connected LED taillights.

Cabin And Feature Updates

Although there’s no image of the facelifted XUV400’s interior either, Mahindra could offer it with a fresh dashboard design to bring the cabin up to date. It is also likely to get new seat upholstery, and bigger displays. In terms of features, the updated XUV400 is expected to get the same feature updates as the 2024 Mahindra XUV300 which include ventilated front seats and wireless phone charging. Existing equipment such as the single-pane sunroof, auto AC, and connected car tech is likely to be retained.

Mahindra could provide the facelifted electric SUV with safety features like six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, and possibly advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as well.

What About The Battery And Range?

While the new Mahindra XUV400 will likely continue with the same battery pack options (34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh) as the current model, we expect it to offer slightly improved range figures. For now, the XUV400’s claimed range stands at 375 km and 456 km, respectively. Both battery pack options get the same 150 PS/310 Nm electric motor.

Expected Price And Competition

The facelifted Mahindra XUV400 is due to arrive in 2024, likely in the second half following the launch of the facelifted XUV300. It could be priced at a small premium over the current model, which is sold between Rs 15.99 lakh and Rs 19.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It will continue to take on the Tata Nexon EV while serving as an affordable alternative to the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.
