Cons : Price tag might be >10L,No DSG auto tranny in diesel, limited service network

Volkswagen is a German word, Volks meaning people and wagen meaning wagon or car. Volkswagen pronounced Folksvagen.vw,along with its sister skoda india, has a strong hold of luxury mid segment sedan from price range of 10L-20L.I can say confidentely that they are undisputed leaders in this price range.Right from the vw group's entry into india, they wanted to forey into the small and entry level sedan segment in india. After investing a huge sum of 3500crores starting from 2008,they finally launched the much awaited polo hatchback this year feb 2010.It might be not be doing a roaring sales like that of Ford Figo, but vw has a target group,a potential bunch of buyers who wont set their eyes anything less than this.I have seen the three pot diesel cylinder polos on road but was quite dissappointed by the diesel rattle that the engine creates.so i was looking further launches of vw to satifsy my eagerness to own one of this deadly beauties.yes,I was waiting for none other than the Vw polo sedan aka vw vento.Iam very much impressed with the vento's streamlined boot perfectly mated with the polo hatch.Infact it would outset, linea in terms of looks and comfort when it hit the road this diwali. This vw 4 cylinder diesel injection engine would be smooth as silk with a linear power delivery. The car for its mass and size has a sufficient 105bhp engine with a dream torque of 250Nm.This torque would dictate a quick throttle response, excilarating drive pleasure as well as mileage of 20kmpl*(if the hypes, gossips are to be believed).I had a friend who had a Skoda octavia which was returning a fuel efficieny of 23kmpl in ooty!!!.so if that is the capability of octavia then we can expect a little plus of minus of that fuel efficiency in vento too.I read about the air pollen filter in vento which I think is unique to this entry level segment, also the rear adjustable driver side seat is a good thought put in use.The rear ac vent is what is needed for the hour in any car that is run in a tropical country like india.I expect that the rear legroom to be decent size, because after investing in a sum of 10L segment car,it is disappointing to see that most of the entry level sedan, mid size saloon cars dont have a decent leg room in the rear.I expect the quality of the ride to be stiff little bit, since it is essential for the over all stability of the car.unlike the Suzuki desire which has a soft suspension in the rear which gives a floating like experience at high speeds,I think vw known for its build quality, handling effectivness would put in all its resources into use to build this car into a legend on road over throwing the all new honda city.If atall vw is planning to launch the DSG auto tranny in its high end diesel highline,I want them to bring it in along with the tiptronic feature for a sporty ride.Overall a good package,a master piece awaiting its dawn to rule the roads of india.

Well as the review says...it can be a segment beater...but for indian consumers..after sales service is as important as buying a good car. Volswagen currently lacks enough service centres and thats where the problem lies. Once they get sales....service has to be excellent to maintain their grip on the segment...also cost of spares has to be reasonable. Also since volkswagen is producing the car in india(pune), why cant it launch the petrol and diesel variants at the same price..like what skoda did when they launched the octavia???

Hi sanjeev, Very true about your after sales-service aspect.Selling a diesel and petrol cars at the same price might be a better option for us(customers),when it comes to selling the car after 3 years or so a diesel aways fetches a better price than a petrol sibling since the diesel can be used for taxi segments, where they run approx 100kms-200kms per day min.whereas people who own a petrol when they sell for their cars,it fetches very less value when compared to diesel. So diesel buyers keep all these things in mind before investing a lakh more.,I do think pricing petrol and diesel octavia at the same price is a good option.I saw all octavia's on road either diesel or Rs sports(enthusiast car).Vw might have thought of pegging its legs in all segments starting from i20(diesel),dzire,verna transform, manza, honda city(obviously),to some extent toyota altis petrol

There might be a slight variation of price between 50k to 70 K between these above said card to Vw vento but customers who are going in for a sedan segment dont mind coughing little more for quality, drive dynamics, fuel efficiency(15k/l for petrol and 20k/l for diesel).Lets hope the same fuel efficiency magic spell is on vw vento as that was in octavia diesel. Coming to service a big yes,.Vw needs to improve quiet a million,.Cusotmers cannot hundreds to kms to reach a service bay.It should be atleast within 15-50kms(atleast).also in this era of replacing the entire kit for a failed fuse,i think service shouldn be a big techno stuff for these service centres.Even tata service centres do the same, some faulty switches, change the entire assembly!!!!,so why not a german car brand like vw would do something different?.I hope for all the price hype created for the last two days by vento, the car should sell in drastic numbers and when it comes to service,Vw should be standing with a compassionate and bold face to treat it customers not run and hide stating the non availability of the spares and so on....
