Cons : 3 to 4 months waiting period

Most of the comments I see here or on any website regarding this car looks like are written by people who have never owned or driven a Polo. They talk about expensive after sales where in the car is on road since 6 months and the first service is recommended by the company only after 15000 km. As far as after sales is concerned if you own a car worth 6.5 Lacs(Polo Highline Petrol), you cannot compare it with any other 3.5 Lac car. When it comes to brand assosciation- VW is much higher than any Japanese or Korean brand except Toyota, and Brand does matter. You will the difference of the quality by just opening and shutting the doors. Many here comment on 3 pot engines, for their knowledge all premium hatchbacks with 1200 cc engine now a days are either coming or planning to come with 3 cylinders.ex Micra(Nissan) I agree 3 pot engines are bit noisy than the conventional 4 pots however the good insulated interiors of Polo makes it quite and there is no vibration at all. The drive is smooth and the response what you get from the steering is excellent. As far as interiors is concerned, it can be compared with only one hatchback - Micra. Polo interiors give a rich feel. As far as rear legroom is concerned Polo is as good as any other hatchback or I should mentioned as bad as any other hatchback. The steering is old fashioned however gives you a good feel. It depends what you prefer simply styling of flashy, opinions may differ. To add more no car in India gives 6 yrs anti corrision warranty. There are issues with their customer service. Dealers need to get sincere and matured enough. No accessories are provided with the car, starting from mats.... But free accessories should not be the reason for buying a car. Yes, 3 to 4 months waiting period for the car is a bit long Like every other car it has its pros and cons. I would suggest people planning a hatchback to take a test drive of all cars in the market and decide the one they feel like. Do not get biased or make decisions by any reviews here. I did the same and today I am a proud owner of a Polo

Thanks for your excellent review. I already booked VW Polo 1.2L Petrol Trendline which costs Rs.5,10,000. The high line is Rs.6,70,000. I decided to go with trendline... Is trendline is same as highline externally, I mean appearance? I know highline has ABS, 2-Airbags, 4 door power windows, Remote locking etc...

  • Rajyavardhan |30 Aug,2010 01:59:27 PM

Trendline does not have rear power windows. The driver seat cannot be adjusted in height, the door handles do not match with body color and the rear seat cannot be folded in 60:40 ratio. You can fold the rear seat completely. I would suggest if possible go for comfortline which costs only 50k more than the trendline. In long run 50k will not make much difference.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I see the difference between the Trendline

Thanks for your reply. Yes I see the difference between the Trendline and comfortline. The on road price difference b/w these two is 60K. I feel that the 60K extra money is not worth for the features. Instead of comfortline, is it possible to add some features in Trendline after buy the car like Power Windows for rear door, Remote Locking etc as we do in Swift?

  • Rajyavardhan |30 Aug,2010 07:37:50 PM

well.. any modification will void the electric and electronic warranty. 60k is worth getting seat adjustment feature, rear power windows and also the door handle will not let any one know if its Comfortline or Highline also to mention you have boxes to carry small bottles and items in the rear door and you get the parcel tray which is not in Trendline. Even if you try adding these features you'll come close to it and warranty will get void. At the end its your choice if these features are worth to you or not :)

Oh is it.. Thanks for your valuable information. May i know the warranty period for electric and electronic things?... This is my first Car ever and i don't know many things about Car. Your information are really useful.

  • Rajyavardhan |30 Aug,2010 08:00:50 PM

The warranty is for 2- 3 years... depends. I'll suggest you to go for Comfortline.

Hello, Just want to know about mileage in city as from showroom i have been informed that it is near 13 in city and 17 in highway but as a polo owner what is your experience

  • Rajyavardhan |07 Sep,2010 05:36:49 PM

@ Jishnu: in city you get 12.5 to 13 and on highway 15

Hi, no doubt the car is excellent. Problem is the waiting period of 3 4 or 5 months. Secondly servicing is available only in major citites (mostly metros) If the car brakes down/meets with even a small accident, it has to be taken to the nearest metro. There the car will be put in a quee and you have to wait for your turn to come. If you are staying in a metro only where their service station is available and do not go on long drives then polo is an excellent choice. Otherwise when the car brakes down in highways by chance you will really repent. It is really a golden knife.......................

Hello All, I'm planning to book VW POLO Comfortline (Petrol). Please provide ur suggestions.

  • Rajyavardhan |18 Sep,2010 02:20:07 PM

@ Omprakash : Don't give a second thought. If you have patience to wait for 3-4 months. Go for it.

Hi Raj, What about pick up and ac load of 1.2 engine?

  • Rajyavardhan |11 Oct,2010 03:28:31 PM

AC load you can hardly feel... the AC does not make any difference. The pick up is ok.... The power is generated above 2000 RPM. At times you dont get the power on demand but I still feel its good. It depends on your driving style.

Hi Raj, I am totally in love with the 1.2 Petrol Comfortline. The only pressing concern is that I found the engine noise (while reving up) disturbing in the test drive vehicle. It was like a faint sound that one hears from a generator placed outside ones house. As an owner, do you think it concerns you or that you even notice such a sound? Would really appreciate your thoughts!

  • Rajyavardhan |14 Jan,2011 12:00:39 AM

Hi Aniket, Its true that the engine is a bit noisy because its a 3 cylinder engine however the car is very very well insulated. You would hear no noise or vibration inside the car. I have drove more than 6000 km and it did not concern me at all.

Seriously the perfect review.I really liked the way you mentioned the fact that brand value matter.I love german engineering, and its no match when compared to the japanese, korean. And also we shouldnt consider cars like figo which are'nt meant to be a premium car.Brand does matter a lot.Its like having a Apple Iphone and a samsung corby. Both have the features but what matters is the working, the way its been put together, brand value.Everywhere apple dominates similarly, the VW will clearly dominate in its working and does what it claims.I liked your review, well explained.
