Tata Tigor - Diesel performance is a letdown

I'll be very frank in my opinion, I know Tata Motors have put in a lot of effort in the Tigor but I still feel it isn't the best compact sedan of the lot. I would prefer a Honda Amaze over the Tigor because it looks more complete. Going through the reviews of Tata compact sedan, one thing that I find consistent is the not-so-great Revotorq diesel engine. The performance isn't up to the mark when compared to its petrol counterpart. Since I am a tall guy, I would have wanted a more raised car but the diesel version sits on even smaller wheel size of 14-inches as compared to 15-inches on the petrol Tigor. The interior fit and finish is decent but doesn't quite compare to the Swift Dzire's cabin. The AC in all Tata cars is excellent but they do create a lot of noise inside the cabin and the new Tigor I'm told is no better. The touchscreen system is laggy and can be connected only to an Android phone, which is a downside for me, as I use an Iphone.

And the worst part in the Tigor is the opening of the boot; there are no latches on the boot lid, you'll have to come all the way to the front seat and then press the button over there. Moreover, you'll have to keep the ignition on to continue its functioning as the boot is electrically powered (what the hell). I can only consider it, if it comes below Rs 4 lakh, else there are plenty of other compact sedans like the Amaze, DZire and even Tata Zest to choose from.

TaMo is bringing Tigor. Welcome. But I am disappointed that there won't be any Automatic transmission. TaMo should take care of the comfort of the customers..

The performance is better than BMWTER......ARE YOU JOKING OR WHAT?????? I am not joking. Tigor is a high performance machine and this was not being manufactured for the people like you.. Lazy man.

@Dinesh, Tigor is Sub-compact sedan(4mtr in length). not compact like you referred Amaze. You can pair i-Phone with the infotainment via Bluetooth but the Only thing is the App is available on Android devices And for opening boot lid you have a button on remote key.

@ Dinesh: Hope you should compare the price and features provided..do we have Reverse camera in other Sedan in this segment?Herman music system with 4 speakers and 4 tweeters?Automatic Climate control? and a better pricing for top end model from other sedans?

    Ashish |26 May,2017 12:00:48 PM

@Dinesh: I think your comments are bit harsh and biased. Tigor is beyond comparison with any of the cars of its segment as far as the cost vs. features is concerned. Even Dezire top model (ZXI + AMT, costing about 9.60 Lakhs) is also not having some very handy and important features (like Corner stability Control, driving mode-ECO & CITY, boot space, bigger Cooling Glove box, Dual Headlamp combo-projector+halogen etc). So, Tigore may be termed as a worthy complete Sedan justifying its price

  • ABHI |22 May,2017 09:51:38 AM

When the Auto transmission model will get available. I want to book this car immediately but don't know when it will be launch.

While you may be right, look at the price point. The closest competitor dZire sells at 1 lakh higher than equivalent variants in Tigor. Regarding the Android compatibility, it is restricted to Navigation only. Barring that, you can connect your phone to the car through Bluetooth and use the steering mounted call controls. Neither does swift come with a couple of driving modes, and the music system is by Harman or cooling box. Given its price, its much more than what Suzuki offers.

But What about Diesel Engine, Isn't it Under Power?

    Prakash Lehari |24 Jun,2017 03:11:08 PM

yes but it will give you unbelivable milage i hope you will not use in formula one.

  • Pappu Pager |05 Jul,2017 12:01:08 PM

The fact : The Revotorq engine is significantly underpowered. To such a degree, that slight variations in driving style could severe reduce the mileage. TATA have to up the power to justify the rest of the brilliant product in the Tigor. The Ride-height/Ground clearance is the same between the Diesel and the Petrol since the aspect ratios have been changed in the tyres to mitigate the difference in Rim sizes. this has been neccesitated because of the extra weight of the deisel Engine.

  • Pappu Pager |05 Jul,2017 12:12:35 PM

The Tata Tiago/Tigor/Storm/Aria/Hexa infotainment head unit is a significant let down on a brilliant sounding music system / speakers. If TATA are clever, they will introduce ANDROID AUTO and APPLE CARPLAY into their head units on a much larger / brighter (minimum 7 sized touchscreen which is more responsive.) They should retain the rotatary knobs with a nurled effect for better tactile feel.(no touch buttons like in HONDA - rubbish!. have to take your eyes off the road to operate.)

I feel sad to see trolls paid by foreign manufacturers criticizing Tata products without even driving/looking at them. Please stop behaving like antinationals. If you need money, ask Tata and I'm sure they can give you enough to prevent you from selling out to Maruti. Coming back to the Tigor, it has the best interiors of the lot. HONDA AMAZE? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? That car has so much noise inside the cabin that it is not possible to listen to music in peace. Jai Hind.
