Pros : value for money

Cons : poor safety, sluggish pickup, low power engine

I am now repenting for having brought this Tata Nano. I already had 2 cars, WagonR and Beat. But I thought of buying this small car for city drive as it costs very less. It was my mistake that I did not test drive this car before buying. The first time I sat in the car, I realised that the car ranked zero in its safety features. If there is a head on collision with some vehicle, then there is no chance of the driver surviving because the front is flat. Once in the city, a reckless auto hit my car from back, my car broke down. I was wondering how is it possibl when it clicked my mind that this car has got its engine at that back. So the driver of Nano has to be at the mercy of other to prevent it from being hit at the back. The car has also got a low power engine lesser power than Maruti 800. The suspension is extremely poor and the ride gets bumpy even on slightly potholes roads. No power steering even in the highest model Lx BSIII. Poor mileage too. OF COURSE TATA MOTORS HAS NOT LAUNCHED THIS CAR AT SUCH A LOW PRICE FOR THE PEOPLES WELFARE. TATA MOTORS STILL MAKES SUBSTANTIAL PROFIT ON THESE NANO CARS. THOUGH NANO MAY BE A LANDMARK IN TATA MOTORS HISTORY, STILL NANO IS THE WORST HATCHBACK CAR LAUNCHED TILL DATE THAT COMES WITH DOZENS OF FLAWS.

Joy pity on you for calling it a worst hatchbag - 1. its simple you want to travel in first class AC superfast train at the price of general class local train 2. Though not much but the car is very decent at least you enjoy first class comfort at the price of local.

well said buddy..there are certain people who want everything but dont wanna spend anything.. NANO is superb car.. go get yourself a Merc if you dont like it

I think everybody knows that TATA NANO is powered by 630cc(approximately) engine,so no point in comparing it with Maruthi 800,I think other auto giants cheated many Indians, because they only want profit.Only real Indian(Rathan Tata) can understands the needs of common peoples. And I want to ask one question what safty feature Maruthi 800,or Omini giving.

Hey all you critics, if you are a so big fan of Tata Motors so called Nano, then keep your tongue to yourself. No need to pop in and put forth some junk in place of the comments. This muddlehead, Vinesh writing rubbish - travel in AC first class and pay the price of local class - whats the use of this writing rubbish ? If this low cost car is the PEOPLES CAR then it should at least have some standard features. Now I see the other muddleheads commenting that Maruti-800 and Alto have not proven their safety. Have you ever heard of a 800 or Alto catching fire but their have been five such cases for nano. And if two cars are of the same range, then its worthwhile to compare their engine power. So Santosh, first check that whether you have got even some sense-leave apart your common sense, you don't seem to have that- and you too check what 'special' knowledge you have got before putting forth your junk comments.

well said Joy... PEOPLES CAR should at least have some standard features.. In 1.5 Lakh, we can get second hand alto which is far better than Nano..

i am driving nano cx from last 6months. i driven it every where like highway long drive(regularly 8 hours driving),in village without road, and in my city patna.i did not find any problem. MILAGE is also good around 15 to 24mpl depending on condition of driving. i already driven this to 5000kms nothing very bad.there is vibration during revs gear now, this is only thing that i found something to go service center. After all found nothing much irritating from it. i give you my pure experience nothing else. It is always good to buy upper model than lower one but for i say MORE SATISFACTORY.

lets hear it from an expert!!! :D The car has safety features which maruti 800 and omni and alto are not having--- ever heard of collapsible steering!! if u are so concerned about the front, i would like to tell you that there are some standards of safety that indian cars should have, without it a car cannot be launched.. So obviously nano has passed it.. Omni has a steeper front than nano, how about this!!

    Joy |08 Dec,2010 09:28:31 PM

Remember Amit, I did not talk about Omni, I know it has a flat front as it is a commercial vehicle.

    Amir |17 Feb,2011 04:31:50 PM

well, omni is not a commercial vehicle... its passenger commercial... everyone knows that...

well commenting on ever heard a maruti 800 caught fire then heres my answer.. there has been atleast 4 incidents of that.. 24 april, 19 sep, 16 oct... These are 3-4 incidents of this year only!! talking about same range.. marutis engine is 796cc and nanos is 624 cc... wait but the power to weight ratio is 56ps and 58ps respectively!! Still i dont agree with the same range funda!! they have atleast 75000 difference between them.. Hope this helps, I am an Indian car brands fan-- \m/ (tata and mahindra)

There are many cars caching fire regularly. I have seen Alto, Esteem, Scoda, caching fire. I listen AC is excellent compare to M800. Compare it with a good bike normally range 65,000/- to 75,000/- Nano CX come in double rate but much more (save from winter summer and rain) positive comes. Safety also at its best (compare to bike). Never compare to Alto which cost near to double.

  • Chirantan Dey |08 Jan,2011 01:31:23 PM

I fully agreed with Arup..we should always compare with respect to cost only. Joy you cant expect 5 star luxary by paying Rs 1000/day.Maruti-800 price is 2.8(AC-Onroad) where as nano 1.96 (LX-onroad), can u let us know what are the extra features Maruti-800 providing for which it is costing Rs 86000 more? On the other hand power window and central locks are missing in maruti 800 which nanao has.Nano height is atleast 200mm more than 800 and oviously more spacious. For your kind information both Maruti 800 and Nano passed same test as per CIRT requirement in VRDE tracks.Don't judge by only some engine capacity..judge by requirement of speed and load bearing capacity. If it satisfied the same no question comes any more.. Plz dont set 800cc as a bench mark for small car.In comparison with europian and american small car 800cc is also too small. Boss! come to indian senario where average city speed is 50km/h and 630cc is enough!!Last but not the least, also let us know what are those extra safety features Maruti 800 has comape to Nano? We are looking for your knowledgefull comment with data/fact and figures. And kindly dont write only volatile words..

TATA NANO, the much hyped car of this century, certainly stands upto its expectations. let me first say that a Maruti 800 or a Maruti Alto DO NOT at all add to the status symbol as they are still the cheap cars. To add a status symbol, you need to at least purchase a car costing upwards of Rs.5-6lakhs. Any car below that is considered cheap. Believe me you do not purchase a 2-3 lakh rupees car for show off, do you guys? The NANO offers mileage of 22-23, which is THE BEST on Indian roads (only after the new Indica eV2). It maneuvers very very easily in city traffic and is sturdy enough to go 90 on highways. I have been driving NANO LX for the past 6 months or so and i have never found anything lacking. Alto costs around 1.25-1.35 lakhs more than NANO Lx. NANO has front and rear fog lamps, Power windows, Overdive(very comfortable) stylish looks, Body colored bumpers, Body colored door handles, Body colored ORVM, heighted seating. Alto dosent have any the above things. Driving the NANO without without a power steering was almost as smooth as WagonR as it is very light Weight. The TATA NANO offers the Best Value For Money. The standard model comes for around 1.5lakhs (on road Mumbai) and the fully loaded Lx version for 2.15lakhs (on road Mumbai). This car makes every dream come true and is definitely better than what you get after spending 1.2-1.5 lakhs more. Hats off to Mr. Tata for this 'lil wonder... it is the car of the future... -Manzil Thakkar -Tata loyalist -Nano user
