Looks and style of Skoda Rapid can be termed as elegant and smart. My car is Rapid 1.6 MPI Leisure MT The interiors offer great comfort even for long journeys Skoda sedan has got good pickup compared to its rivals It offers excellent mileage of not less than 18km/ltr Best Features: I would say good engine, less noise, easy cooling and good suspension system which is all you need in a car Needs to improve: Its seat upholstery and cabin accssesories Overall Experience is GREAT

I wish to buy skoda rapid diesel version. But I am scared after reading some reviews that Skoda gives very bad services after sales. and the car is very delicate for Indian tough roads. The maintenance and parts are really expensive. Please share your experience about all these points. Regards shubhajeet Ghosh

if you prefer elegant yet understated, classy and pristine European styling, good reliable, strong quality materials inside out, comfort and safety enough to ensure peace of mind, great drivability, great handling and at some (neglible for many) extra cost then this is the car for you. You will feel it when you shut the doors which are heavy and sound of a deep distinguished 'thud' that welcomes you will trigger a sense of gratification in you. It will be announcing the safety and comfort of traditional European cars married to smart and polished reliable engineering without sacrificing itself at the alter of chintzy kind which is coming to be associated with terms like 'modern' or 'space-age'. Then this car is even more tailor-made for you(nearest rival is the plain Jane sibling Vento albeit sporting a more premium badge). I won't comment on Skoda sales and service since it's pretty much a subjective issue and as if to prove that there are very many conflicting remarks floating around, something you will never hear about a Maruti, a Honda or a Toyota even Mahindra. Volkswagen belongs to neutral category like Renault but unfortunately Skoda alludes to be more akin to Fiat or Tata on that front. I, touchwood, personally had a pleasant experience so far and looking forward to buying a Superb Tsi AT either new or sparsely used. Depending upon one's preference, for good or bad, the Czech company is known to be poor man's Mercedes in Europe. As comfortable as it's more upmarket and expensive peer, providing safety of a tank, it's a beautiful car to own. You will be delighted, relaxed, and pleasantly surprised with your Skoda. It fits like a glove if picked rightly. And that goes for most of their models. The car we are talking about though is a unique Skoda in a sense that it is the only one in their inventory which has a completely dedicated plant to build it nowhere else but in India. That certainly has many effects, some desirable i.e.. keeping the costs down both for the manufacturer and the consumer without compromising much in exchange. Amongst the present lot, if it meets your budget then the variants labeled as Ambition+ and Elegance both manual an automatic are the more interesting. If you are looking particularly in small/mid sedan segment with an automatic gearshift below fifteen Lacs (Chevrolet Cruz, VW Jetta and Skoda's own Octavia) then you have picked the right car well ahead of the competition. The so called black package is a harmless cheap gimmick, the car looks pretty nice without the add-ons. Now where the consumer really feels cheated are parts only Skoda can rectify but only then when either it has people who love their job or consumer and markets force it to or both. The diesel engine common with VW Vento and Polo rattles like a distant diesel generator set even at idle and produces a measly 103/105 BHP and 250 NM torque. It's gives being even that at as low as 4000 rpm and above. We would love Rapid not to be a Polo with a Boot. This much of power is better than most of the competition and ample enough for a very pleasant drive for all kind of drivers within the city and the highway but it's time is over, more efficient, more silent, more horses and more torquey engines with lesser emission levels are call of the day. Skoda along with VW and Audi (it's sister companies) has all the wherewithal to see that change with little effort and enormously beneficial results. Broader and taller 16' tyre scream out at least as an option. A most glaring and unforgivable mistake is the lousy 2din infotainment system without navigation or touchscreen. It is forcing a discerning driver to go for either for a very expensive Skoda accessory from a higher end car which will set you back almost 50,000 Rupees (with new speakers, reverse camera) if you retain your original system (Rs.10,000) or hunt for one in the market for one that somehow looks less incongruous than the one on offer by Skoda, a Blaupunkt (Rs.41,000+) . With such changes the best and most expensive variant, the Elegance AT will set you back by almost RS 13,00,000. Curtain airbags for atleast front passengers is an another feature sorely missed. There are vents in the back seat which are just fans with hardly any controls and no 12 V socket for passengers at the back. It's also time now that Skoda upgraded to Xenon headlamps and daytime running LEDs. The seats are nice and comfortable the fabric is nice too and if we are talking about improvements then a little more thigh support and like someone said the new Honda City has seats that hug you along with elimination of the tunnel protrusion in the middle which makes a third passenger totally cramped will go a long way. These are also things that the consumer ends up thinking about, rightly desiring and missing in a car (even though he coughed up a pretty decent amount) which is great idea and a reality nevertheless in form of Rapid Tdi. I have not focused much on the particulars nor goods that this car is going to offer you because direct perception is the most valid proof. Take a Rapid for a test drive on different roads and traffic, see it, hear it, feel the comfort of being driven around in it. You should also take a couple of the other cars of the same kind and price for a test ride which will help you gauging the difference between the competition. Rapid, people in overwhelming majority find a tough one to beat. Even those who settled for other cars, are, regardless, impressed with this brilliant VFM product especially the automatic (with seven speed DSG gearbox, one of the best in the market). The DSG in the same engine with same tune (105bhp/250Nm torque) on POLO GT Tdi makes it a treat of a hatchback to drive. The extra weight and length of the boot on Rapid naturally effects the performance (when compared to Polo GT) it still remains a very pleasant and enthusiastic car to drive. One very important fact that we ignore while selecting a car is the ageing process and Rapid like all Skoda cars or VW, Audi family car is very slow on that front therefore your car retains a youthful look and the engine continues delivering a punchy performance even after many years in service. These vehicles need proper mandated service at the authorized centres at right intervals. In return they have extremely long and hassle free life cycle. One must get a Teflon coating on the exterior and paint job (preferably steel plates too if possible) below as soon as possible. Most of the dealers will do the coating before they hand over the car to you if you ask them, I think you should. They will charge you between 13 to 17 thousand for it. Hope you have good and absolutely safe experience with your car. I also wish (with a realistic hope) that my reply was of some help and in accordance with your experience ultimately, (and with much less possibility) of Skoda listening to suggestions made by it's costumers and bringing about those changes, Some of them are overdue Skoda.
