S-CROSS THE SPORT GENERATION

THE AWESOME CAR FOR THE COMMON MAN WHO WILL NOW BE A MAN WITH ADVENTURE AND PLEASURE. Apart from having what must surely be one of the longest – and most tongue-twisting – model names on the market, this range-topping version of the SX4 combines diesel power with a dual-clutch automatic gearbox for the first time. It’s Maruti Suzuki’s answer to a burgeoning niche within the small SUV sector – a class that the maker itself originated back in the 1980s and ’90s. The six-speed box is available with the 118bhp 1.6-litre diesel exclusively in range-topping all-wheel-drive SZ5 form and has may features such as sat-nav, Bluetooth, DAB, USB socket, rear parking camera, climate and cruise control, 17in alloys plus auto wipers and xenon headlights. The engine itself is strong for a 118bhp 1.6, if somewhat unrefined at low revs. Its 115lb ft of torque is available from as low as 1500rpm, ensuring plenty of pull and flexibility, while its official 62.8mpg translated into 48mpg in our real-world drive. Unfortunately, though, it’s not at its best when teamed with the auto box. This doesn’t react quickly enough when you start hustling the car along out of town, even using the wheel-mounted paddles, and it hangs on to gears for too long in standard Auto driving mode let alone in throttle response-quickening Sport mode. ‘Sport’ is something of a misnomer, in fact. The SX4’s body is well controlled through fast bends, but the steering isn’t as finely honed at it could be. The ride isn’t that composed, either, with lumps and bumps sending thuds through the large wheels into the cabin, particularly at low speeds. Grip levels are good, however, and it's possible to electronically lock four-wheel drive, too. Inside, space in the front is fine but rear adult passengers will find their headroom is challenged, particularly due to the SZ5’s standard-fit panoramic sunroof. The boot space is generous and well planned, however, at 430 litres, and 875 with the 60/40-split rear seats folded. There’s not much of a range-topping feel to the cabin. It’s well built, but the dash seems somewhat cheap and the infotainment set-up has an aftermarket feel. The latter is sharp and nicely responsive to use, at least. Ultimately, we don’t think it’s worth paying so much more for what is essentially a value product. The diesel-automatic combination doesn’t justify the extra cost of all that additional kit in this range-topping-only model, as the Suzuki is already fairly well kitted out even in lower-spec variants. The diesel makes much more sense in two-wheel-drive SZ4 form with a manual gearbox. Or there’s even Maruti Suzuki's newer Vitara, which offers cheaper prices and more rear space. Why not give it a try? well as per Indian roads are concerned it has a well suspension and is best car that I had ever drived. S-cross has made Indian people happy as being introduced of much better cars with new technology and best perfomances.THIS IS BEST AND VALUE FOR MONEY I LOVE IT....
