When the Baleno was launched in 1999 in India as a sedan, it's sales were significantly lower than both the Maruti Esteem and the Hyundai Accent. Therefore it was withdrawn from the Indian market in 2007. Maruti, however, decided to dust off the Baleno label and re-launch it as a hatchback in 2015. It was an immediate hit, clocking a much higher than expected sales and a huge order backlog, which encouraged further production. Since it's a Premium car, it is sold through the upmarket 'Nexa' dealership. My buying choice of the Baleno lies in it being cost effective and coming loaded with a host of additional features vis-a-vis the Jazz and i20. Here is my review of the Baleno, which will not only describe the car, but also explain why it is a complete buyer's package:- Exteriors:- The Stunning, Bold and Dynamic exteriors of the Baleno will definitely captivate you enabling you to look at the Baleno with awe. The liquid-flow design and the V-Shaped front grille are some of the innovative features of the Baleno's exteriors. Apart from the stylish design, the car also has several features that help you overcome various driving constraints such as the fog lamps and LED projector headlamps. The exteriors fully justify Maruti's slogan 'Made of Mettle' for the Baleno. Interiors:- Furthermore, the interiors evoke praise. Each and every element combines to enhance the style of the interiors. There is plenty of knee room available for the rear passengers even if the front seats are adjusted to accommodate a tall person. The rear seating is not a squeeze for 3 adults. The front seats are very well cushioned allowing a comfortable journey for the passengers. Various parts are chrome-finished making the interiors lavish and giving a whole new look. Performance:- The sporty feeling of the Baleno's ride is enjoyed by everyone. The 1.2 litre VVT engine delivers vigorous power and torque. The car goes over bumps very comfortably without any discomfort to the passengers. An impressive mileage of 19 kmpl and 21 kmpl is delivered for roads and highways respectively which is very good for metropolitan cities. Entertainment:- This vehicle keeps you entertained whenever you are on the go. You get a SmartPlay infotainment system with Apple CarPlay. This is a feature that enables one to connect their iPhone and use it on a bigger screen. Navigation system, steering mounted audio, aux and USB are some of the other useful features of the Baleno. Safety and Security:- Safety has always been a priority of a buyer as well as of an automobile company. Equipped with Airbags, ABS with EBD, Anti Pinch window and the Suzuki TECT body makes the Baleno the place where everyone feels safe. Utility and Storage:- The Baleno boasts of more than adequate storage space for a person's daily usage. The vehicle has bottle holders on each door, a front floor storage space and an arm rest with a storage console. The boot is large at the capacity of 339 litres. It comes with the 60:40 split where the seats can be divided. This enables you to store large amount of luggage. The parcel tray above the boot is also pretty useful for storing items. Pricing:- Great design and features don't come for free. However, The Baleno is an exception. The price tag of 5 to 7.5 lakhs is a great bargain for a car like this. Verdict:- No doubt, it is a complete buyer's package as it ticks all the buyer's requirements and has a favourable cost-to-benefit ratio. Owning the Baleno brings me utmost pleasure because of the satisfaction yielded due to possessing this car. I am positive that the other owners of the Baleno feel proud of owning this brilliant car and will only contribute high compliments and regard when discussing the achievements of the Baleno.
