Maruti Baleno: it is spacious, comfortable, feature packed
I am reviewing out Maruti Baleno, The hot hatch market isn't just warming up because you have got variety of Maruti scales in the market. It's getting red hot and now, Maruti Baleno is all set to take it past boiling point. I am not a fuel efficient driver and I am the first to raise hand and admit it. I have tried, twice or thrice and I promise and assure that, I could probably make it done if I really had to. But in everyday driving, it is not my style. It is too much tedium; too much effort.
Everyday is a routine has started forming on my commute & I have accepted my sin. I adopt a Zen like nature of mind and embrace myself into the traffic and flow with it. And as it turns out for me it makes for much better fuel efficiency. Once I tanked up the Maruti Baleno recently was astonished to see that it had done 540km between fill-ups. It is an astonishing 15kpl. I soonly whipped a calculator out in disbelief & a few frenzied taps later I realised it was right. I then spent like twenty minutes on interrogating the entire Autocar India testing team & editorial to seethat if anyone accidentally filled it without me knowing and didnot log a record.
What I did was finding out that it did go on one leisurely highway run between those fillups, that will definitely driven the number up by a kpl or two. Truth is it nudges past 12kpl on my commute day by day. This is a petrol car lest we get forget. The 2 things make this possible. The first one is the weight which is at 890kg even for this top-spec car and is a full 75kg lower than the cheaper Swift and the second is the engine - this is quite possibly the excellent all-rounder in the naturally aspirated 1.2--litre class. It is so tractable low down and can handle your 5kph crawl in second gear with out a fuss. Keeping me entertained during the entire crawl of the journey when you are travelling in Maruti baleno is the marvelous colour screen between the dials that gives you so much information I needed. At first I thought it was gimmicky and gaudy, but I have soon realised that trying to bump up the realtime fueleconomy number is an immensely fungame. It is also the reason I have been sub consciously working on improving my fuel efficiency. Only annoyance I could face is that the distance to empty read out that sometimes disappears and once the yellow reserve fuel warning light comes on that is when you need it the most.
I?ll try to stop here because it is the longest I have talked about fuel efficiency in an entire stretch that I can. For the kind of driving I am resigned to daily, however this is new found light footedness of mine is a great surprise, especially after the recent petrol price getting hike. So is the Maruti Baleno. I felt like it is so spacious, comfortable, feature packed, and now fuel-efficient in my hands too.
