I had bought a 4X4 BSIV variant of Thaar but i should say it's just a basic plane jane jeep with a lil more off-roadability than certain other siblings, with nothing much to talk about. it may be making headlines in SA but in India it just couldn't impress any one much. the reason being the featureless package that it offers for over 6lacs price tag & it's a hard bet to maintain with daily escalating fuel prices here in our country. the mileage figures that come in print are just good for the books & nothing close to the real world efficiency of the vehicle, the servicings are lousy with even lousy & dumb service mechanics, making the deal even bitter. the absence of ABS makes it self felt while speedy tarmac driving that happens most of the time & even while off roading the braking is sometimes a huge issue. the engine though powerful does not pack much of a grunt & some enthusiastic off roading can stuck you mid journey. for the kind of price it commands, the performance isn't up to the mark when comparing it to any other mahindra MUV. So any one looking for a serious off road vehicle should instead look for a seconds or brand new MM550 DP or a Willys & put the rest of the money in the off road kits available in the market, that will really feed yr off road cravings. I had to sell my Thar as it wasn't the same off roader as it was promised to be.
