The Mahindra Scorpio - Award Winner?
The Mahindra Scorpio was the first SUV manufactured by the company Mahindra for a global market. In total, the car has won 3 awards namely "Car of the Year" award from Business Standard Motoring as well as the "Best SUV of the Year" and the "Best Car of the Year" awards, both from BBC World Wheels. The third generation of the cars was released in 2014 with completely redesigned looks and features. In my eyes, it is truly one of the best looking cars on the road. The striking front end of the car has a new grill with chrome treated slats support my statement. It also reveals a new headlight array with projector headlamps for the low beams whereas there are halogen bulbs for the high beams. One interesting thing to notice is that between the two bulbs there is a tertiary halogen bulb facing to the side, which is operated while taking turns at night along with the movement of steering wheel which makes driving at night very easy. The side of the car reveals stunning new wheels with 5 spoke alloys and blacked out B-Pillars and C-Pillars in the car give it an amazing look. The chrome treatment around the turning indicators is the cherry on the cake. Moving to the back of the car, we see a lot of changes there as well. First of all are the tail-lights, instead of the tall elongated tail-lights we saw in the 2nd generation, Mahindra has now started to give us D-shaped LED tail-lights which add to the cars look. The back door for the car has a two-tone finish which also looks pretty good and goes well with the side of the car. When we move into the car, we realize that Mahindra has totally changed the car. The two-tone dashboard uplifts the ambience of the car and gives it a luxurious outlook. One more thing to appreciate is the chrome treatment the Mahindra Scorpio has to provide within its interior, but it is only available in the top model variants. Now let's talk performance, The Mahindra Scorpio offers a 2.2L turbocharged diesel engine capable of producing 120 BHP and 280 Nm of torque. While accelerating, the turbo kicks in at almost 2500-2600 RPM, although you may feel a little thrusted back into your seats but it's not brutal. It has an acceleration which is fine and fun for a family 7-Seater car. It is a rear wheel drive car which makes it an awesome commuter for a drive in the mountains or any kind of off-roading. The high ground clearance of the car further proves that fact. The Scorpio claims of giving a mileage of 16.36 kmpl but in city driving it offers you around 13 kmpl which is not that bad given the power that car packs under that hood. Talking about the hood, the Mahindra Scorpio also offers a functional hood scoop on it which helps to cool that monstrous engine it has. Overall, it is a very powerful car which may be used in any kind of driving situation. Moving onto the quirks and features of the Mahindra Scorpio, we first pay attention to the infotainment screen in the car. It has a 6-inch touchscreen with plenty to offer. It comes with Bluetooth, USB, AUX, FM, AM connectivity in-built. One stunning feature about the infotainment screen in the car is that there is an alerts tab in the menu of the screen, which provides you with all the things in the car that need to be looked after. For Example, service reminders, low tire pressure, etc. Also, one nice feature is tiretronics. It tells you the condition of each and every tire in the car i.e. the temperature and pressure of the tire. Not just of the 4 tires the car is currently running on, but also the spare tire which is a very handy feature as you never know when you may need that tire. One special feature in this car is regarding the audio. The equalizer in this car can be adjusted to direct the audio to a specific seating position in this car. Front serenic can be opted for directing the audio to the front seats and similarly Rear serenic may be opted for directing the audio to the rear seats in this car. This feature works amazingly well and gives you a great auditory experience. Comfort- The seats in the Mahindra Scorpio have great seating material, they are soft just according to ones liking. The front passenger seat in this car may be adjusted back and forth with manual controls, however, is not height adjustable, unlike the driver seat. The back seats of the car are fixed and may not be moved but offer the same comfort as the front ones. Similarly, the third-row seats in this car are also fixed but, oddly they are facing the wrong way which may be weird for some people. The legroom and headroom in this car are ample for any kind of tall person and one may travel in this car for a long road trip with no problem at all. Meanwhile, there is one problem. The support that the seats provide is a little less, a rough road accompanied by the soft suspension is all it takes to wobble the whole car along with the passengers in it. Driving Dynamics- This car has one of the greatest driving experience which starts which the seating position in the car. Once you sit down, you feel the king of the road with all other cars residing below you. One more thing is the visibility through the cabin, one can see well over the A-pillars and B-pillars in this car with excellent visibility over the hood. Seeing the size of the car, one may think that it must be difficult to drive this car around in the city but that is one misconception this car clears as soon as you take over the wheel. Off-roading this car is also not very difficult, it packs the power to get you out of any kind of situation. However, the 4 Wheel drive model this car has is much better for that kind of experience. Overall, The Mahindra Scorpio is a great car with excellent features and great driving dynamics. It has the capability to make anyone fall in love with it once you drive it. The top model for the car is available for Rs. 16.48 and frankly it is a bargain for the amount of features this car has to offer.
