Hyundai has been a "Brand of Trust" in India being a Korean Brand. Hyundai slammed the Indian market with the introduction of it's first premium Hatchback, the i20. Back then it was merely a gamble, It was ambiguous whether these elongated hatches could be a part of Indias "most preferred cars" or not. Even then, Hyundai took a risk and gave it shot which certainly turned out to be profitable. I got a chance to put my hands on a 2014 i20 and here's the language that it speaks. The looks The front bumper looks decent, without much detailing. In front to you get a nice "over the bonnet" headlights which is the biggest detail. The fog lamps are housed right below them and right in between, lies the Hyundai Logo. You get body couloured ORVMs which look nice too. Move to the side and you notice the nice fluidic line which starts from the A pillar and end at the C pillar. The door handles even look premium and are soft to touch. The speaks a whole new story the i10 like back could have been more detailed and the tail lamps could have been nicer.   The interiors, Sitting inside is what I liked the most, The seat feels comfortable with the adequate amount of thigh support, the seats are manually adjustable. You get power windows for both front and the rear passengers and the steering mounted control to make your life easy when you are on drive. Over to the left is glove box with ample amount of space and there are a lot of cubby holes to keep your belongings in place.Little chrome accents on the knob look nice but also do not fulfill the purpose. At the rear you get good amount of leg room and head room but the seats could have been a bit more comfortable. You get a 256 ltr boot which is adequate for a small family. The quality of plastic used feels premium but I think the quality could have been a little better. The technology, It comes loaded with features, the center console has 3 dials and a small display which shows mileage and KMS driven. You get Automatic climate control, chilled glove box, rear AC vents, 2 din audio system and the list keeps going on. I found the infotainment unit easy to use and has a lot of connectivity options. The buttons are nice to touch with little chrome accents to complete the package.   The surge, Equipped with a 1.4-litre 16V U2 CRDi Diesel Engine which develops power of about 88.73 BHP @4000rpm and torque of 219.7Nm@1500-2750rpm it feels flawless. With a 0-100 KMPH in just 11.9 Seconds, you never run out of power on road. The shifts are nice and the 6-speed gearbox works well. however, it could have been a bit more responsive but serves the purpose. At around 4000rpm you could use the maximum of peppy nature of the engine. The 14-inch alloys and the suspensions abrob the bumps but could have been better. Over an all, the drive does please you and makes you feel that you bought the right thing. It is engaging and won't leave you struggling for more power.   Verdict, At a current price of 8.44 Lakh (Ex showroom), it might feel a bit pricey as its competition has got better features to offer with a small price tag. It is good to drive, However, the gearbox could have been a bit more efficient. The best part is that you never run out of power and won't leave you wanting for more. The drive also won't let you get tired and the paddles and the steering are pretty soft.
