Grand i10 Sportz
Grand i10 is my first car and this is my first ever review. So let me start with the prologue, the hunt … To be frank I didn’t even knew the driving when the first ever germ of having own car appeared in my brain. But with all curiosity and excitement, I dived into the car exploration … I started with high ends with 1500cc plus, and eventually started taking test rides; main aim was to improve on driving skills and experience various vehicles without any cost. Few cars I shortlisted for my final selection were – Figo, Swift and Tiago. From list one could easily understand what my budget area was. Yes I wanted to have a car with adequate power of more than 1000 cc and price around 6 Lac, at the same time it should obey an old rule of fuel efficiency. Hyundai’s grand i10 was the last car I test drived and it immediately made a permanent spot in my list. Such was the impression that I almost wiped all my previous test experiences and finalised the car. Why? So below are the few areas that made this selection easy … a) Within budget range of 6 Lac. Sportz was shooting bit beyond this version but I was Ok with it. b) Good music system and dashboard with premium feel c) 1200 CC engine which is so refined that I couldn’t identify that my car is started while windows are closed. No vibrations and noise in cabin. d) Super smooth steering and handling. And an easy maneuverer. e) And no commercial labels to it and it pure family car so far … So far I travelled 4500 KM’s in 3 months and below are my findings. Driveability - The car is made for city driving. On highways you should be in limits , as ABS is not standard and is an option we have to care for speed on sharp turns. The pickup in 3rd gear is good and can take you to 70KM/ph with good torque. This is useful for overtaking. On highways 5th gear can easily cruise to 120KM/ph. You may find comfortable in4th gear and might want to switch to 5th in day to day commutes. Breaking - Coming to breaking, the breaks are highly responsive below 40KM/hr. However on high speed you should not break abruptly. And slowdown is must. You may have to keep RPM above 1000 or clutch pressed, this to ensure that enough suction available for breaks at low RPM. Suspension - The suspension is good on low speeds again. At high speeds you may attend a threshold where the bumps will go on increasing until you slow down the vehicle. Keep the tyre pressure at 33-34. Infotainment - Music system is awesome and seamlessly integrates with your mobile via Bluetooth. The steering mount controls are aptly organised so that you can control song volume, can take calls and can also dial from history easily. The dashboard gives enough warnings and clues for seat-belt,engine heating, doors etc . Ergonomics - Car can easily accommodate 5 medium sized person. The drive comfort is good and one can driver 150 KMs without any fatigue on all kind of terrain. However the rear passengers may have to extend their legs on long drive. Switches for lights and music system are handy and neat. Overall it’s a good car for first time owner. It won’t leave you without an everlasting impression …
