Pros : Great looks, luxurious interior, comforts, drive quality, endurance, fuel economy

Cons : None so far.

Look and Style: My whole family fell for the look & style of the Honda City kept in the showroom, on our very first visit. It looked every bit a big car and yet was so cute. The Royal Beige colour of the showroom car made it look all the more attractive. Couldn't just take our eyes off it. We saw other cars like Vento (VW), Linea (Fiat), SX4 (Maruti Suzuki) and Manza (Tata), but none could get Honda City off our minds.

Comfort : We took our new Honda City VMT from Ahmedabad for a pilgrimage to Shri Khatu Shyamji 800km away, and then onwards to Shri Salasar Balaji -- another 120km away. Our Honda City sleekly covered the distance (mostly 4-lane NH-8, and rest NH-11) in 12 hours' driving plus 1.5 hours' breakfast & lunch breaks. At the end of this drive, we were fresh enough to immediately visit the temples for darshan. The drive was so comfortable that neither we nor our driver felt any fatigue. The aircon was powerful enough for the harsh Gujarat & Rajasthan climate. The spacious interiors were more than enough for our family of three, with two in the rear seat and one beside the driver.

Pickup : The showroom attendant had told us to restrict maximum speed to 100kmph till 1st service. Our Honda City picked up 100 kmph in a matter of seconds, leaving behind almost all other cars in the vicinity. Even on the ~100km ghat section before Udaipur, the car took the curves at 80kmph, with enough reserve power to overtake other cars at a gentle nudge to the accelerator. It was amazing power and road grip on the display.

Mileage : We got the overall mileage of 15.8kmpl at the end of the trip, driven throughout with aircon. In the city, I am getting 11kmpl and the 1st service has not yet been done.

Best Features : Performance to match its great looks, unbelievable fuel economy for such a large car and with aircon. Pride of ownership.

Needs to improve : Yet to find any.

 Overall Experience : Wow!

I am excited to read this first hand report of yours and I am very much tempted to book one immediately. I am also scouting a good sedan for the family and pride of ownership and have been comparing reviews on the sites for VW Vento and SX4 mainly. Kindly highlight, any attractive price discount or freebies offered to you by the Honda dealer.

Dear Madhav, Glad to learn that you found my review useful. I bought the Honda City (model: VMT) in October '10 and was given the offer of 1st year's insurance premium free, which was about Rs 28,500/-. About Vento, in my opinion it is not in the same class as Honda City in terms of looks and luxury. It is basically a VW Polo with a boot! On the top of that we had to wait for over half an hour before the lone showroom-attendant could attend to us, who told us that there is 4-month waiting period for Vento. The VW dealer also could not provide test drive of Vento to us. After the pleasant experience of the Honda showroon this was the reality check! Maruti showroom people are good and professional and promptly provided the test drive of their SX4. However, SX4 test drive felt like riding an SUV due to the the rather 'upright' seatings and high ground clearance. The look and the interiors also do not really match those of Honda City. SX4 is a lakh rupees cheaper than City and it looks that way. We went to Tata motors for Linea and Manza, but could not get the test drive even after being redirected to their mela. Manza was nearly 3 Lakh rupees cheaper but certainly it is more in the class of Swift Dzire, nowhere near City. Linea looked good, but the engine is probably underpowered and longevity of Fiat is as yet suspect in India.

Ground clearance is very less. As per our road condition it must be increased.

Dear Madhu, we took our Honda City out on the toughest conditions possible driving it across a stretch of nearly 2000kms in a span of 48hrs. Having driven it across such a large distance which included terrains like the ghats, plains and even partly through the deserts of Rajasthan. I personally did not face any problems in any of the facets of the working, running and engineering of the Honda City. Though I understand that the ground clearance of a Suzuki SX4 is more than that of Honda City, but still it does not hinder in any way the smooth running of this marvelous vehicle, all thanks to the wonderful suspension it's been provided with. So, I don't think you would face any problem with a Honda City on an Indian road.
