The new Figo hatchback is the next generation model from Ford in the B-Segment. The hatchback has been designed keeping in mind the One Ford philosophy followed by Ford’s global line-up. Exterior The front of the car is similar to that of the global Ford models with a hexagonal grille that is reminiscent of the Aston Martin design. The horizontal chrome slats at the front make the car look premium, along with the sweptback headlamps and black air dam and fog lamp housing. Unlike the Aspire sedan, the Figo hatchback is proportionate, which makes it look much better. The side profile highlights the strong shoulder line and interesting alloys, the tapering roof line is becoming standard across the segment. The rear section is relatively low profile, the horizontally stacked tail lamps look decent, but that apart there isn’t much to talk about. Interior Like most hatchbacks in the segment, the Figo gets black interior, though there are a few silver inserts for the dashboard, steering and door trim to give it a dual tone effect. The cabin has decent space both at the front and the back, but the biggest advantage is the utility quotient. There are 20 small and big chubby holes in the cabin to keep everything including mobiles, wallets, water bottle, coffee cups and event small laptops. Ford is not offering many features with the car. There is an advanced music system with voice commands, steering mounted audio control and automatic air conditioned. That apart, all the features are available from dealerships as accessories. In terms of safety, all the variants get driver-side airbag, will the top two Titanium versions get dual airbags and ABS-EBD. Performance The Figo will be available as two petrol and one diesel engine option. The 1.2-litre gasoline unit is refined but seems underpowered with a 87bhp and 112Nm output. The 1.5-litre petrol, on the other hand, is the most powerful in the segment with the power figures of 110bhp and 136Nm. The smaller of the two comes with the five-speed manual while the larger capacity engine uses a six-speed dual clutch transmission. The 1.5-litre diesel is also one of the most powerful B-Segment hatchbacks with 99bhp and 215Nm available on tap. Variants and Competition The Figo hatchback is available in six trims across thirteen variants. Both the petrol and diesel versions with manual transmission are available in Base, Ambiente, Trend, Trend Plus, Titanium and Titanium plus trims. The automatic is available in the Titanium trim. The Figo hatchback is available in seven colours – ruby red, tuxedo black, deep impact blue, ingot silver, sparkling gold, oxford white and smoke grey. The hatchback competes with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and Tata Bolt in the B-Segment.
