Well, Ford seems to have an answer for these questions called Ecosport. It made a grand entry in indian market & is a sub 4-meter compact SUV which means it don't have offence with taxes. Ecosport comes with 3 engine options 2 transmission combining forms a total of 11 variants to choose from.

Design & Features

Ecosport looks futuristic, bold, & daunting which is made to turn heads astonishingly unlike others in this segment. Its big front grill & slim headlamps gives it a headstrong bad boy look with loads of attitude. Car looks very beefier from every angle having a tall stance. At rear end it has a wrap around windscreen & a tail mounted spare wheel which definitely adds points on exterior attributes.

Moving inside, first thing which is noticeable are seats are comfortable and there's ample of space around. As the seats setup are higher so there is good commanding vision on the road. Besides, tilt and telescopic steering adjustment & driver's seat height adjustment helps person behind the wheel to find a comfortable position to drive.

Engine & Power-train

Ecosport is available with 3 engines & 2 transmission(Manual/Automatic) options.

• 1.0 L Ecoboost (Petrol)* - 999cc 125bhp 170Nm

• 1.5 L TDCi (Diesel)* - 1498cc 100bhp 205Nm

• 1.5 L Ti-Vct (Petrol) - 1499cc 112bhp 140Nm

Ecoboost engine is the most powerful and quickest motor among these three. Though, it is a small 999cc 3-cylinder engine which is turbocharged. While driving 1700 rpm mark this engine seems to be too dormant but as soon as its revs over 1700rpm you are served with a heavy dose of power which lets the Ecosport to take an astonishing sprint. Ecoboost engine delineates concern of Ford in establishing themselves more prominently in Indian market. Above all, when you drive this engine above 1700rpm it creates a whizzing sound as the turbo kicks in which would surely make you grin.

1.5 L Ti-VCT is a naturally aspirated petrol engine which has a decent power along with a very uniform power delivery and is the most user friendly and drivable. But it may feel a heavy to your wallet because it is a big Petrol engine to feed.

1.5L TDCi is the Ford's diesel unit which has a nice band of torque with linear power delivery. Nevertheless, if you had driven Ford Figo or Figo Aspire you would surely recognize & enjoy turbo punches in this. Don’t undervalue this engine while comparing with its petrol motors. TDCi has agility to pull with ease owing to the handsome amount of torque.

Driveability, Performance & Efficiency

The steering in Ecosport is Electronically assisted which comes along some good cabin sound insulation which filters out most of the noise. Furthermore, if you expect it absorb potholes & big bumps easily it is not so unlike an SUV. Ecosport is built on Monocoque chassis which doesn't give freaking body roll when driving on a winding section of road.

In terms of performance Ecosport's Ecoboost unit is the real performer among the three engines. If you are really fond of performance this one got some mind-boggling performance attributes. Furthermore, other Petrol engine have a uniform acceleration and suitable for highway cruising as well.

Diesel unit TDCi is the most efficient in all three which is followed by Turbocharged Ecoboost petrol engine.

Ford Ecosport Efficiency Overall(Kpl)

1.0 L Ecoboost (Petrol)* - 18.88

1.5 L TDCi (Diesel)* - 22.27

1.5 L Ti VCT (Petrol)* - 15.85

Verdict

Ford is always known for making driver's car. Accordingly Ecosport is a very good driver's car and also a good handler. Apart from Ford's traits, looks striking having beefy design which surely appeals for second look of it. This car is good with both Ti-VCT & TDCi engines and offers you an ease to drive either on city's bumper to bumper traffic or on a highway cruise. But, if you expect some exciting performance along with good efficiency go for Ecoboost engine.
