Test drive and initial impression of 1.5 Diesel Titanium
Look and Style It is a looker from any angle, there is no second thoughts about this. Does any other vehicle look so good from all angles? Which other vehicle created this kind of perfection when it comes to visual appeal? I do not see one single vehicle in the 5.6 to 9 lakhs price rage that is so much appealing. My family does not like SUV's or Jeeps or such vehicle but they all fell in Love with Ecosport at first sight. Comfort Apart from the shoulder space issue (my wife says it is good for her because she will be constantly rubbing shoulders with me :-) ) ecosport is extremely comfortable for an average Indian sized male or female. If you are above 85 kgs and above 6 feet tall then the front seats might not be enough and if your family has 4 or more 6 footer's then please do not buy the ecosport. Otherwise, think no further regarding space or comfort. The space looks much more in the Titanium version due to the lighter shade used in the dashboard and doorpads than in the Titanium Option variant. Pickup This is an area Ford has to improve a lot. The initial response is good, the gearing is near perfect for city driving. If you are a frequent long distance traveller with more than 50% of driving constitutes long distance and highway driving then please do not buy the ecosport, but if you drive in the 70-90 range only and morethan 50% is within the city then this is the best car available. The main drawback is the accelaration from 30-60 km in 3rd gear, the engine feels aboslutely lifeless and you will have to downshift or rev hard to overtake even a moped. Mileage Not tested, but the test drive vehicle which had done about 600 kms showed an average of 16km/l which, considering that it would have been driven by different people with different style, is something great in today's fuel price scenario. Best Features The ecosport is fully loaded and the best features are 6 airbags, Sync with bluetooth, climate control AC, Steering controls, and the internationally acclaimed Ecoboost petrol engine. Needs to improve The quality and feel of the plastics, especially the seat side claddings and the carpets. The plastic claddings in the foot area was seriously scarred within a couple of days in the test drive vehicle which indicates that it is not made of good quality materials. But, considering the competitive pricing the manufacturer had to cut corners somewhere. Overall Experience Ford has a winner and I hope they will follow it up with a good aftersales service policy and will continue to improve or maintain the quality. Hopefully, they do not rush production to cater to the demand it will have in the market and loose the quality aspect in that process.
