A Car you Would Love !!

Audi, Merc, BMW, JLR, etc usually need no especial mentions as they are all awesome cars. So, while I would do the review on AUDI A3, I would be humbled to express that all cars are awesome, but since I'm an owner of Audi A3, I'm gonna write about Audi A3. Audi A3 : Introduction Audi primarily makes Sedan and SUV vehicles (with a few hatchback model in Europe and North America). They have A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, and A9 in the sedan segment with A3 being the entry level variant. In India, in 2019, you would have A3 in diesel as well as petrol and both ONLY in the Automatic version. Both petrol and diesel comes in two variants each : Premium Plus and Technology Plus, with Premium plus being the entry level variant. The basic difference would be of Navigation, Dynamic indicators etc (not a very glaring miss though) A3 35 TSI Premium Plus : I was actually looking for a luxury segment car and had almost zero down the SKODA OCTAVIA (petrol) when I realised that I should take a look for the A3 and it was post test drive that I decided to pump in some more budget and go for the niche value, so decided for the A3. Usually, I’m a petrol freak and hence went for the TSI engine and as I mentioned that the price difference between the premium plus and technology plus was close to 3 lac, I did not find worthy for that extra penny and hence opted for the premium plus petrol vehicle. The Engine : The engine comes with a 1400 cc and a 150 BHP with 250 nm of torque. It’s a dual clutch 7 speed auto gear shift with two modes (A normal Drive mode and a Sports mode). It also has a manual shift in the auto option. It’s a COD (cylinder on demand) technology which means that when you are in city drive and the RPM is at a low round, it functions on 2 cylinder and the moment you are at the highways and you the throttle hard, it automatically changes to 4 cylinder. This saves a comprehensive fuel in long run. The Colour Options : The A3 (in 2018-19) comes in colours like Blue, White, red, Silver, Black, and Yellow. The selection of colours is purely individual’s choice. I personally love black, so I purchased a black A3. The Looks : Exterior : Needless, to speak for the exterior looks of the A3, which is very classy, stylish, yet a very toned down one and a typical Audi look. Indeed, the CLA has an edge over the looks when compared. But, having said that the looks of A3 compels you to fall in love with its classy headlamps, typical Audi grill, the steady side lines, the rear looks very stylish with the new tail lamps. Overall, not a very loud design but a very appealing one though. The Interior : You step inside the A3 and you get a feel of style, class, and upmarket. The doors are heavy and opens in 3 modes. The dash is simple, yet very sober and the best charm comes with the Audi MMI, which pops up in the mid of the dashboard, when you switch ON the ignition. You have all plastic material of top notch quality. The materials used in the switches, doors, gear shift etc makes you feel that you are into an luxury car. – NO COMPLAINTS at all. All switches are well in reach of the driver. The panoramic sun/moon roof adds class to the cabin. The seats are very comfortable and with supports for the sides which mean that when you push the vehicle at corners in speed, it would hold you firm. The back seats are good and have personal AC vents with mobile charger points. You would have simple yet nice armrest in between. Two improvements AUDI can do here are – increase the thigh support and the tunnel can/should be reduced. Rest all is top class and fine. You get aircraft like Aircon vents as well as focus lights. The inside cabin lights, foot lights, dash board lights, the MMI lights, all can be dimmed and increased based upon your choice. The trunk is huge and can accommodate 4 big size suitcase with the net facility available, you can place small items and cover with the nets. The entry or the loading to the trunk is wide and comfortable. The trunk opens with the remote in the keys. The Features, Safety, and Technology : Audi A3, though is an entry level Audi sedan, but it comes loaded with features to ensure that you have a safe, luxurious, and comfortable journey. It comes with 7 airbags (with one extra knee airbag in the front for the driver). You have the ABS, EBD, Hill assist, Auto brake hold (which means that there is no need to keep the brake pressing while you stop at the traffic lights), and the most exciting thing you would find is that the engines reads your braking pattern in the city drive and pushes the engine in sleep mode while the electrical are in ON mode which means that the engine stops but have the AC, music system etc working. And the moment you touch the throttle pedal and/or touch the steering the engine cranks ON – WOW…!!! You do not get the hand brakes but auto electrical hand brakes, so need not to worry. You would love the dual climate control AC. The CD system along with the SD card option is placed in the glove box, which makes it a bit small, but you would like the built quality. You also get pen drive option in the front arm rest. The blue tooth option is always there. Yes, you miss the auto charger in the premium plus version. You get auto headlamps, auto rain sensors, headlamp washers, one touch button for power windows, heated ORVM’s, driver seat electrically adjustment option, The steering is very nicely weighed and has a classy leather wrapping with all important controls mounted over it. The speedometer is electrical and we miss the virtual cockpit here but the display is good with lot of computer information available (like, last trip time, distance, avg. mileage, avg speed etc). We miss the google play/apple play in this trim. The rear fog lamps are a good addition. So, when it comes to latest gadgets, it doesn’t disappoint you. The Drive : You may initially carry the notion of a less powerful engine (1400cc) but when you would witness the power translation of 0-100 speed in around 8 seconds, you would come out of the 1400cc trap. With 150bhp and 250nm this is a beast of an engine for this size car. You can feel the amazing drag/pull in the sports mode where the rpm push is amazing. The auto gear shifts are very smooth and you do not even feel the change in gears. At times below 100 rpm one may feel the lag but that lag remains only for a few seconds. The cabin noise is ZERO and infact many a times you may have to put your ears to listen the engine sound. The steering is very good as it gives you a light and comfortable feeling in the city drive whereas, a very steady and heavy feeling at high speeds over the highway. Needless to speak about the amazing braking system, with the vehicle being absolutely stable and grounded even when you apply the brakes at high speeds. The suspension is very stable and good and on steep turns at higher speeds keeps the cabin stable. Minor bumps and pots don’t give any feel, whereas the higher bumps also at average speed doesn’t hits the bottom. I drove the car from Bangalore to Madurai (approx. 400kms) and I had zero fatigue and I felt like I have driven only 80-100 kms. OVERALL: The luxury is spell bound and after the entire analysis, one can feel the return on investment – and be glad. Though being the youngest in the Audi family, you never feel to be inside a small brother or driving a less powerful Audi. The brand and esteem value of owing an Audi is always with you. If you are ready to push your budget by 5-7 lacs and need an esteem product, than certainly go for the A3. The on road price for A3 in Bangalore is as follows, Petrol : A3 Premium Plus – 42 lacs* A3 Technology Plus – 45 Lacs* Diesel : A3 Premium Plus – 46 lacs* A3 Technology Plus – 51 Lacs* *All prices may vary 2-5% The Service Part : Though, its been just two months for me to buy the car, I have been told by the Audi folks that it needs to be serviced in 15000 km’s or one year (whichever is earlier) and the rough estimate of the servicing cost could be around 15-25K. My Final Take : Yes, you have Skoda Superb, Skoda Octavia, WV Jetta with less price, but in total aspect one can be assured that A3 would be a great pick – esp. with the niche and esteem value of Audi cars in Indian market. I feel, its worthy and anything worthy doesn’t comes easily and cleap….!!! So go for it and njoi. Safe Driving!!!
