Sunny 2014-2016 Diesel XE Review
Nissan Motors India Limited has officially launched the latest version of its premium sedan, Sunny in the automobile market. It comes with a set of new aspects in terms of both exteriors and interiors. The company is offering it in eight variants among which three are petrol and five get diesel engines. Among these, Nissan Sunny Diesel XE is the entry level diesel variant that is powered by the same 1.5-litre, SOHC based engine, which is capable of producing 84.8bhp and generates 200Nm of maximum torque. This base variant is also blessed with sophisticated safety aspects like ABS with EBD and driver airbag as standard, which makes it competitive in its segment. As far as the exteriors are concerned, this newest version comes with a redesigned radiator grille along with a brand new headlight cluster and bumper, which provides it a fresh new look. The internal cabin comes with a restructured dashboard, which is beautifully decorated brushed metallic inserts. Apart from these, the remaining aspects like HVAC unit, power steering and other necessary aspects have been retained form the outgoing variant. The company is offering this premium sedan with a standard 2-year or 50,000 kilometers, which can be further extended at an additional cost.
Exteriors:
This refreshed sedan series comes with the same body structure, but is equipped with a set of new aspects. To begin with its front profile, this vehicle has a pronounced radiator grille that is affixed with three horizontally positioned slats. It is flanked by a newly structured, boomerang style headlight cluster that comes fitted with powerful halogen lamps along with turn indicators. The front bumper also gets some changes in the form of a new fog light console along with a slightly bigger air dam. The overall new look is accentuated by the stylish company's insignia, which is engraved on to the grille . The side profile comes with slightly modified ORVMs, which are in black color. The door handles along with window sills and B pillars are treated in black color. This variant comes with a set of traditional 14-inch steel wheels that are covered with tubeless radial tyres. Coming to the rear, the bumper is now fitted with a black colored protective cladding, which is the only change. The company is presently offering this variant in six attractive paint options, which includes thee new colors including Pearl White, Deep Grey and Nightshade. The other three include Onyx Black, Bronze Grey and Blade Silver. It comes with a total length of 4455mm along with a total width of 1695mm. It has a decent height of 1515mm and a generous ground clearance of 165mm.
Interiors:
Coming to the interiors, it has a black color scheme along with a newly crafted dashboard that has a stylish central console. It also has brushed metallic surround that renders a refreshing new look. Apart from this, it also comes with a redesigned three spoke steering wheel, which is engraved with the company's insignia. Both the front and rear seats have been integrated with head restraints and have been covered with good quality fabric upholstery. Other utility aspects provided inside are a storage compartment, cup holders, magazine pockets, bottle holders, inside rear view mirror and sun visors . This sedan comes with a huge boot space of 490 litres, which can be extended further by folding the rear seat. The space inside is quite good owing to the large wheelbase of 2600mm.
Engine and Performance:
This Nissan Sunny Diesel XE trim is powered by the same 1.5-litre, K9K mill that comes with a displacement capacity of 1461cc. It has 4-cylinders and 8-valves based on a SOHC valve configuration, which is further incorporated with a common rail direct injection system. This engine can develop a maximum power of 84.8bhp at 3750rpm that helps in developing a commanding torque output of 200Nm at just 2000rpm. The company has skilfully coupled this motor with a five speed manual transmission gearbox that transmits the torque output to the front wheels. The manufacturer states that it can deliver an ARAI certified mileage of 22.71 Kmpl.
Braking and Handling:
This sedan comes with a robust suspension system in the form of McPherson strut for the front and torsion beam rear suspension. Its front wheels are paired with a set of disc brakes, whereas its rear ones have been fitted with conventional drum brakes. In addition to this, the company has also integrated anti lock braking system along with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist system, which minimizes the possibility of skidding and increases its agility. On the other hand, this sedan comes integrated with an electric power steering that supports a minimum turning radius of 5.3 meters.
Comfort Features:
The Nissan Sunny Diesel XE is the base variant, but still has several important comfort features. It is incorporated with a manual air conditioning system that keeps the entire cabin pleasant irrespective of the temperature outside. This sedan comes with a list of features including a power steering with tilt adjustment, 12V accessory power socket, key remove warning lamp, headlight on notification, front power windows with driver's side auto down function and other such aspects. It is also incorporated with a drive computer featuring a tachometer, dual trip meter and other information based aspects. Apart from these, it has three cup and bottle holders, anti-glare inside rear view mirror and follow me home headlamps.
Safety Features:
The company is offering this base variant with sophisticated safety aspects as standard, which includes driver airbag, ABS, EBD and brake assist system . This latest sedan also comes with an engine immobilization device that safeguards it from any unauthorized access. It is built with high strength steel featuring impact absorbing bars, which enhances the protection for passengers inside. Apart from this, it has features like central door lock, low fuel warning lamp, speed sensing auto door lock, door ajar warning, key remove warning notification and headlamp-on warning.
