GL-Class 63 AMG Review

Mercedes Benz India has officially rolled out the AMG version of its GL Class SUV in the country. This seven seater vehicle is powered by a 5.5-litre, Bi-turbo petrol engine that is paired with an advanced 7G-Tronic AMG Speedshift automatic gearbox. This AMG version is being offered with exclusive interior and exterior package, which makes it look unique. Some of the exterior aspects include 5-spoke AMG light alloy wheels, sports exhaust system with two chromed twin tail pipes, intelligent light system with adaptive Bi-xenon headlamps and so on. The interior aspects include stainless door sill panels with AMG lettering, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control unit and several other such aspects. The all new Mercedes Benz GL Class 63 AMG is available with four captivating body color options including Cinnabarite Red, Obsidian Black, Diamond White and Cavansite Blue. This trim is available with several innovative aspects like command online multimedia system, rear seat entertainment, temperature controlled cup holder and an active parking assist including PARKTRONIC. On the other hand, it is also incorporated with advanced safety aspects including attention assist system, anti-theft protection package, night view assist plus and active curve system.

 

Exteriors:

 

The newly introduced Mercedes Benz GL Class 63 AMG looks completely refreshing, thanks to the sophisticated AMG exterior package. To begin with, the frontage of this vehicle is fitted with a large perforated radiator grille with two chrome slats along with the company's insignia in the center. This grille is flanked by a distinctly crafted headlight cluster that is incorporated with adaptive bi-xenon headlamps along with LED daytime running lights. The front bumper has a large perforated air intake section that is surrounded by a pair of air ducts, which are further fitted with LED fog lights. It is also fitted with an aluminum protective cladding, which further enhances the elegance of front profile. The side profile has well-molded wheel arches that have been fitted with 21-inch, 5-spoke, titanium grey light alloy wheels that gives a captivating look to the side. The window sill surround has been treated with chrome, while the ORVMs and door handles are in body color. Furthermore, it also has aluminum running board with rubber studs, which is illuminated with LED technology. The rear profile is simply elegant and comes fitted with two-piece tail light cluster incorporated with LED lighting system . The rear windscreen is very large and it is accompanied by a roof spoiler that emphasizes the wide stance of the vehicle and gives it a road-hugging look. The rear bumper is fitted with aluminum cladding along with chrome tipped quad exhaust pipes.

 

Interiors:

 

The interior section gets exclusive AMG package that has a 4-spoke, multi-functional, AMG performance steering wheel covered with nappa leather upholstery and it is further accompanied with paddle shifters. The front cabin is fitted with multi-contour seats, which are fully power-adjustable and has a memory function as well. These seats have been covered with a combination of leather and designo leather upholstery, which enhances the plushness of internal cabin. Additionally, this variant gets stainless steel door sill panels embossed with AMG lettering, which will provide a distinct look to the interiors. The elegantly crafted dashboard is integrated with an advanced command online multimedia system featuring a 7-inch color display along with a 6-DVD changer , 10GB hard disc, Bluetooth interface, USB port and SD card slot.

 

Engine and Performance:

 

The all new Mercedes Benz GL Class 63 AMG is powered by a V8, 5.5-litre petrol engine that has a displacement capacity of 5461cc . This engine is incorporated with a twin-turbo charger that enables it to produce a peak power of 557bhp between 5250 to 5750rpm in combination with a peak torque of 760Nm between 2000 to 5000rpm. All the four wheels will draw the torque output through an advanced AMG SPEEDSHIFT Plus 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. It allows the vehicle to reach a top speed in the range of 250 Kmph, while breaching the 100 Kmph mark front a standstill in just 4.9 seconds.

 

Braking and Handling:

 

This luxury SUV is blessed with AMG high performance disc braking mechanism. Its front wheels have been fitted with ventilated disc brakes, whereas its rear wheels have been equipped with perforated disc brakes, which are further accompanied with high performance brake calipers with AMG logo. In a bid to improve it, the car maker has incorporated anti lock braking system with electronic brake force distribution system and electronic stabilization program . On the other hand, this SUV is blessed with AIRMATIC air suspension system on both front and rear axles, whereas it is further accompanied by adaptive damping system that enables it to adjust precisely according to the road conditions.
