Thar 2015-2019 DI 4X4 Review

Mahindra India has launched the facelifted version of Thar, which is available in four variants. Among these, Mahindra Thar DI 4X4 is a mid range trim. It hardly receives any update except for a removable canopy in terms of its exteriors meanwhile, it retains the same interior aspects as its outgoing model. But a few additions like a lockable glove box compartment, and side facing foldable rear seats enhances the level of convenience. Other aspects that provide a high level of comfort to its passengers include a power steering system that helps in easy maneuverability, front seat headrests and a few others as well. In terms of safety, it comes with a few vital aspects like a muscular body structure, advanced engine immobilizer and seat belts for all occupants that guarantees enhanced security all through the drive. This trim is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel engine that can churn out a peak power of 63bhp in combination with torque output of 182.5Nm. This motor is paired with a five speed manual transmission gear box that helps in returning a decent mileage of around 18.6 Kmpl.

Exteriors:


On the outside, this SUV looks quite aggressive yet stylish. To begin with its front fascia, it features a wide windscreen that is equipped with a couple of wipers. Its bonnet is plain but comes with a visible character lines. The large radiator grille is quite bold and is surrounded by a well designed headlight cluster. It is further equipped with high intensity headlamps and turn indicators as well. Besides these, it also has a muscular bumper that further adds to its appearance. The company has designed its side profile with aspects like a side step, door handles as well as outside rear view mirrors. It also has neatly carved wheel arches that are equipped with a set of 16 inch steel wheels. These rims are further covered with tubeless radial tyres of size 185/85 R16 that ensures a strong grip on any road condition. On the other hand, its rear end too has some noticeable aspects like the canopy, which is removable and the tail light cluster that is integrated with brake lights. Apart from these, it also comes with a bumper and a large tailgate that is further fitted with a spare wheel.

Interiors:

This mid range trim is bestowed with a spacious internal section that is decorated with an attractive color scheme. The cabin is spacious and provides seating for at least seven people with ease. Moreover, it also offers sufficient leg room as well as head space, which makes its occupants more comfortable. The cockpit features a well designed dashboard that is integrated with a few equipments. These include a power steering wheel, while the stylish instrument cluster gives the vehicle's updates and keeps the driver alert. Also, it includes a glove box compartment that is lockable. It is quite spacious and the passengers can place several necessary things at hand. It is incorporated with well cushioned seats that are wide and integrated with headrests at front. These are further covered with fine quality cloth based upholstery. Besides these, the cabin also includes a few storage spaces that further adds to their convenience.

Engine and Performance:


The manufacturer has fitted it with a 2.5-litre diesel power plant that comes with a total displacement capacity of 2523cc. It carries four cylinders that are further integrated with 16 valves. This powerful motor is incorporated with a direct injection fuel supply system. It is coupled with a five speed manual transmission gear box that sends engine power to all its four wheels. The maximum power generated by this motor comes to 63bhp and it yields a torque output of 182.5Nm in the range of 1500 and 1800rpm. It can return a maximum fuel economy of 18.06 Kmpl on expressways, which comes down to nearly 15 Kmpl, when driven on city roads. Furthermore, this variant can achieve a top speed of around 100 Kmph and crosses the speed mark of 100 Kmph in 25 seconds approximately.

Braking and Handling:


It is bestowed with a dual hydraulic circuit with tandem master cylinder and vacuum assisted servo braking system, which is quite reliable. Its front wheels are fitted with disc brakes, while the rear ones are equipped with drum brakes. This vehicle has a proficient suspension system that helps in maintaining its stability at all times irrespective of road conditions. Both its front and rear axles are assembled with semi elliptical leaf springs with shock absorbers along with a stabilizer bar at front. Moreover, it is offered with a highly responsive power assisted steering system that makes maneuverability quite easier to the driver besides supporting its minimum turning radius of 6.28 meters.

Comfort Features:

This rugged sports utility vehicle comes packed with a few interesting features, which help in providing high level of comfort to its occupants. It has well laid seats that offer good support and comfort as well. It is bestowed with a stylish instrument cluster that gives out different notifications. Some of these include fuel consumption, speed, distance and a few other notifications. In addition to all these, it comes with cup holders, inside rear view mirror, sun visors, assist grips and a few other such aspects that adds to the comfort quotient. On the other hand, the company also provides its owners an option to customize this vehicle with necessary modifications at an additional cost.

Safety Features:


This refurbished version is loaded with some significant aspects that ensure safety of not just its passengers but the vehicle as well. It comes with a rigid body structure that prevents any injury in the event of any collision. An advanced engine immobilizer is also offered, which avoids any unauthorized access into the vehicle and protects it from theft. Apart from these, it also provides seat belts for all its occupants to further enhance the safety levels.
